About the role
- Ensure the site is following all federal state and local regulations including all Haleon related standards. These regulations apply to air water soil waste and sustainability requirements as they pertain to the site and associated properties
- Ensure Environmental Health and Safety compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act associated regulations and the Haleon Internal Control Framework with associated Global Standards and Guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor & report EHS performance connect to shared lessons & good practices within the site and with all sites in the regional supply chains.
- Ensure that EHS siteobjectivesare in place aligned to corporate EHS plan & priorities.
- Investigate EHS accidents and high potential incidents toidentifyand implement improved EHS practices. Be able to work in collaboration with teams objectivelyanalysinginformation and circumstances relevantly determining appropriate corrective and preventive actions to forestall areoccurrence. Actively champion the consideration of human factors and human reliability in proactive risk assessments and system design.
- Lead andparticipatein EHS audits and inspections ensuring thorough investigation of any adverse implementappropriate correctiveand preventive actions to close gaps and mitigate EHS risks. Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on audit outcomes and best practices.
- Drive to improve the safety culture of the site ensuring safebehavioursare encouraged and the site to ensure thatbehaviouralsafety is always considered and at the heart of how the siteoperates.
- Develop deliver and track EHS training for all staff to ensure awareness and compliance.
- Have an in-depth knowledge of Haleon Policies Standards and Internal Control Framework and be capable of effectively subscribing these fundamentals into
- a site-specific management system designed to holistically manage EHS risks.
- Managefinancial responsibilityfor the budget of the EHS department.
- Be knowledgeable in the preparation implementation and execution of Crisis Management processesremainingcalm and coaching others in such situations. Ensure effective business continuity and effective loss prevention plans are in place for the site.
- Ensure an integrated comprehensive approach is taken with environmental management to reduce contributions toHaleonsoverall environmental impact from the manufacturing site.
- Collaborate with Shared Services / Functions (i.e. Quality Engineering Continuous Improvement HR IT Procurement and 3rd Party businesses et al) to ensure EHS is integrated into the site strategy Risk Mapping process & site Business Continuity plans.
- Develop relationships and learn through collaboration among EHS professionals in other sites andarea helping to ensure good practice sharing & staff development in the control of risks.
- Ensureappropriate numbersof qualified and competent EHS staff areavailablethe site to address EHS compliance hazards and risks. Support their continued development to make sure potential candidates are in place for role succession plans.
- Implement a culture of total disclosure regarding EHS regulatory compliance audit results and incidents to ensure thatall ofHaleonbenefitsfrom the findings from these events.
- Build andmaintainstrong trusting relationships with customers andstakeholder. Demonstrating the ability to communicate and influence with persuasive reasoning thought provoking understanding and compelling the courage to make tough ethical choices on behalf of the business in line withHaleonsvalues andbehaviours.
- Effectively lead and develop direct report EHS Staff Members.
- As an EHS and Compliance Manager lead the environmental health and safety organization on site through the development implementation and maintenance of effective management systems.
- Provide technical advice andassistanceto Site Engineering/EHS lead Site Leadership Team managers and staff to enable EHS performance to be managed effectively contributing towards achieving the Manufacturing site vision.
- Encourage promote andmonitorthe highest levels of EHS/Engineering performance in line with regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Protect all employees at the site by ensuring that risks to employees are minimized by implementing strategies and solutions to minimize exposure to harmful elements and addition ensuretimelyandaccurateEHS reporting to regulatory authorities and corporate leadership.
Qualifications and skills
Essential
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Science Occupational Health Engineering or related field. NEBOSH or equivalent certification preferred.
- 5 years of experience in EHS compliance preferably in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) or manufacturing environment
Preferred
- Degree in Engineeringor Degree in health and safety
- Specialisation in driving EHS objectives in manufacturing with data analysis and reporting capabilities
Other Job-Related Skills/Background
- Membership in IOSH SAIOSH SACPCMP ASSP or similar
- Auditing skills and/or certification (e.g. ISO 45001 ISO 14001).
- Strong leadership influencing and change management skills.
- Proficient in English;additionallanguagesadvantageous.
- Ability to conduct site inspections and use PPE asrequired.
- Willingness to travel between sites as needed
- Investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Risk assessment and mitigation experience.
- Data analysis and reporting skills.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and National Environmental Acts with ability to interpret and apply regulations.
- Proficiencyin MS Office (Teams Outlook Excel Word PowerPoint Project).
- Strong self-discipline initiative and ability to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels including contractors.
- Teamwork planning and organizational skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Passion for zero harm to people and the environment.
