As a senior-level pump specialist you will contribute to sustaining recreational and commercial fishing opportunities at over 80 hatcheries statewide by maintaining the water supply systems essential to hatchery operations.


In this role you will perform journey-level work on complex hatchery production pumps and motors filtration systems and water supply systems while also applying skills in electrical and machinist trades.


What to Expect-

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this rolethe Pump Mechanic will


Pump Repair and Replacement:

  • Assess troubleshoot maintain repair and replace fish hatchery production pumps up to 100 horsepower and on domestic submersible end suction centrifugal pumps valves manifolds and flow meters.
  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions to mechanical pumping problems and develop methods for maintenance and/or repair tasks to be followed by others.
  • Break down pumps to component level assess wear purchase parts or machine parts on lathe and milling machines.
  • Apply lockout/tagout occupational safety procedures when disconnecting power supplies to remove and install pump motors.
  • Identify and make recommendations for long-term pump needs and improvements.


Budget and Administrative Duties:

  • Develop cost estimates and budgets for new installations repairs or replacements.
  • Track detailed monthly expenditures including travel vehicle mileage purchases and hours by composing Excel based reports for submission.


Pump Purchasing:

  • Analyze prints records and engineering notes to develop pump technical specifications to include the curve measurements and materials to be advertised for acceptable bids.
  • Purchase replacement parts for pump repair including shaft bearings impellers column lube lines valves (both check and discharge) bolts gaskets and coatings.


Working Conditions:


Work setting including hazards:

  • Work is performed at construction sites across hatchery and wildlife areas and occasionally in a fabrication shop. Some work is performed in an office setting.
  • Work on rough or uneven terrain such as riverbanks and slippery slopes in confined or hard-to-reach spaces and in all weather conditions.
  • Frequent bending stooping squatting twisting pushing pulling and repetitive lifting of up to 50 pounds when loading and unloading trucks or moving materials at project sites.
  • Operate motor vehicles in hazardous weather (snow ice heavy rain) on mountain passes highways and paved and unpaved roads.
  • This position may involve working in or near water including tasks that require navigating negotiating and performing duties related to water environments.


Schedule: Typically Monday Thursday 6:00 A.M. 4:30 P.M. 40 hours per week. Schedule may vary based on business needs time of year and/or weather conditions including the potential for occasional evening or weekend work as needed.


Travel Requirements: Travel is required 6080% of the time depending on the season.


Tools and Equipment:Regular use of electrical test equipment (volt-ohm meters meggers phase rotation meters ammeters) pipe benders and threaders saws (Sawzall band saw) drill motors impact drivers roto hammers hand tools (wrenches sockets screwdrivers hammers hacksaws) knockout punches and operation of platform lifts scissor and telescopic lifts and mini-excavators.


Customer Interactions:Frequent interaction with federal local inter-agency intra-agency customers and vendors.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:


Four (4) years of journey-level experience in building and equipment maintenance construction or repair


Including


At least two (2) years of experience specifically working with pumps and rotating equipment.

This experience must include working with all the following:

  • Motors of various horsepower
  • Domestic wells
  • Electrical system
  • Controls
  • Piping
  • Rigging
  • Well rehabilitation tools
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and sketches
  • Ordering parts materials and equipment


Certifications/Licenses:


Valid Drivers License.


Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications our ideal applicant will possess one or more of the following:


Certification:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License with current Medical Examiners Certification.


Two (2) years or more of professional experience in/with:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook)
  • Operating servicing and maintaining heavy equipment
  • Operating state vehicles
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Training for systems with up to 480v 3 phase power.
