Food Service Assistant
The South Lane School District Food Service Department invites applications for multiple positions as Food Service Assistants. Applicants must be available to work at any school.
Job Description
This position with supervision assists in any area of food preparation and service in a school kitchen. Duties include:
- Stocking trays flatware and napkins on service lines; set up and maintain service lines and refill condiments dispensers and food pans; some employees serve hot and cold food to customers; some employees may run a cashier station which includes taking cash making change and recognizing a reimbursable meal.
- Assist in cleaning food service areas including washing dishes and trays cleaning tables sinks counters and serving areas; sweep and mop floors; collect and remove trash; wash sort and stack dishes; miscellaneous cleaning as assigned.
- Assist cooks in preparation of meals by frying baking steaming and grilling foods in school kitchens. Assist staff in making cold sandwiches salads and dressings; cleaning cutting and chopping fruits and vegetables and assist in other food service preparation as assigned.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds infrequently and 20 pounds frequently; stand or walk on hard surfaces; stoop twist bend reach and grasp with high frequency; good personal hygiene is essential to performance of position.
Qualifications
One year of experience in a commercial food service facility and high school diploma or GED preferred. Ability to obtain Food Handlers Card within two weeks of employment required. Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with students of all ages is a must. Ability to prioritize duties maintain professional demeanor and provide excellent customer service during rush periods are required. Understand and follow oral and written instructions and knowledge of proper food handling procedures is essential. Repetitive motion with hands and wrists for an extended period of time and the ability to lift 50 pounds required. Some food service transport between schools may be required.
Salary
Salary will be determined by experience based on current salary schedule.
