The Finance Division provides accounting and budget services to DES and 40 smaller state agencies. What You Will Be Doing:
You will be the primary support to staff in various financial capacities applying principles of established procedures in performing routine transactions related to Accounts Payable functions and works under the guidance of State regulations Agency and Unit policies and procedures by accurately performing a variety of payment processing and will be generally responsible for the accuracy and completeness.

Duties


Some of What Youll Enjoy Doing Includes:

  • Process accounts payable transactions and journal voucher entries as requested by SAFS client agencies.
  • Analyze transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with all related state and federal requirements as well as agency unique policies.
  • Communicate with client agencies and their vendors as needed to ensure transactions are posted accurately and timely.
  • Reconcile accounts payable general ledgers (and other related subsidiary accounts) on a regular basis.
  • Identify outstanding items and make correcting journal voucher entries as needed.
  • Record accounts payable transactions in the proper accounting period.
  • Examine expenditures monthly to compute and prepare accruals for accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare fiscal year-end entries and adjustments in the appropriate periods.
  • Tasks are to be completed using Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) Treasury Management System (TM$) Electronic Voucher Financial System (EVF) Travel & Expense Management System (TEMS) Enterprise Reporting (ER) Web Intelligence (Webi) Statewide Administrative & Accounting Manual (SAAM) and other state financial systems/resources as needed.
  • Work is done utilizing Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) Enterprise Reporting (ER) Web Intelligence (Webi) Financial Toolbox Excel Access US Bank and Electronic Voucher Form (EVF).
  • Analyze data prepare and submit federal miscellaneous tax returns Form 1099 in accordance with IRS rules and regulations.
  • Analyze data prepare and submit unclaimed property and excise tax reports to the WA State Department of Revenue.
  • Reconcile interagency transactions for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Work is done utilizing TEMS PowerPoint Adobe Word and Excel.

Qualifications


REQUIRED:

OPTION 1:

At least five (5) years of experience in accounting auditing or relevant financial field.

OPTION 2:

An Associates Degree

AND

Two and half (2-1/2) years of experience in accounting auditing or relevant financial field


OPTION 3:

A Bachelors Degree in accounting public administration business administration or related field

AND

At least six (6) months of experience in accounting auditing or relevant financial field


OPTION 4:

A Masters degree in public administration business administration or related field


PREFERRED:

  • Two (2) years of Accounts Payable experience
  • Knowledge and experience using the statewide accounting system Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS)
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and state government accounting rules in the Statewide Accounting & Administrative Manual (SAAM)
