Job Summary

This position will provide inclusive and intentional academic support and guidance for adult transfer and first time in college (FTIAC) learners from the Muskegon area. This role will help support recruitment and retention initiatives in a variety of degree programs.

Salary & Benefits: Minimum starting salary of $45000 commensurate with experience.

Primary Duties

  • Meet individually with prospective and current students supporting recruitment efforts.
  • Provide support in initiatives related to student success.
  • Clarify GVSU policies refer students to campus resources and department leadership as appropriate.
  • Assist students in identifying educational opportunities aligned with personal and professional goals. These can be certificates degree programs or professional development opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate individual student academic progress (including outreach to unregistered students).
  • Identify and implement outreach for students experiencing academic difficulties and provide timely intervention strategies.
  • Develop and promote communication and resources that benefits academic success including a newsletter
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop opportunities for students to connect inside classes and outside the classroom for educational and professional engagement. This may include collaboration with alumni career services faculty etc.
  • Support recruitment efforts.
  • Classroom visits and presentations as necessary.
  • Support admissions recruiter as back up at events.
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelors degree and two (2) years of relevant experience in higher education career advising program planning public administration or human services related fields.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • An understanding of and preference for collaborative approaches to planning and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated innovative and independent decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience working in a college setting.
  • Familiarity with computer student information systems and web-based records and registration programs.
