Description
Summary of Class:
Performs a variety of professional activities related to the mission and responsibilities of the commission. Provides commission staffing research or considerable fact-finding analysis and writing up of results to help fulfill the offices mission. This position will be assigned to African American Policy primarily.
Supervision Received:
Works under the supervision of commission executive director; may require assistance in learning sources and some direction on how best to complete assignments; all written work is reviewed.
Supervision Exercised:
Ordinarily none; may lead other staff on a specific project.
Examples of Duties
1. Explains and promotes the Commissions work and mission;
2. Disseminates information about the commission and its activities through websites newsletters news media and other formats
3. Assists with commission meetings and events;
4. Assists with commission outreach and training projects;
5. Monitors the status of legislation;
6. Researches questions analyzes data and prepares recommendations or alternatives;
7. Presents facts findings and alternative solutions in writing and orally;
8. Assists in writing or writes reports;
9. Answers requests for information from legislators commission members and others doing the research analysis and writing necessary to provide a proper answer;
10. Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Required:
(Knowledge skill and ability)
1. Two (2) years experience as a Commission Analyst or related experience elsewhere in government; demonstrated skill at handling the work of a Commission Analyst.
2. Excellent communications skills written and oral.
3. Excellent analytic and research abilities.
4. Ability to maintain good working relationships.
5. Ability to work objectively and impartially both with respect to members of both political parties and with respect to issues of state.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
7. Ability to work overtime as needed.
8. Other more specific training or experience in a particular subject matter may be required by individual offices.
