Job Summary

This position is from approximately January 20 to mid April 2026 (or longer)DESE Certified Substitute Rate of Pay $140 per day $294.42 per day after 30 days DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances the School Adjustment Counselor will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administration may also assign other tasks deemed appropriate.1. Maintain learning expectations of students at all times.2. Counsel students whose behavior school progress or cognitive emotional or physical condition necessitates assistance.3. Encourage parents and students to participate in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communication about students personal and academic progress.4. Assess students referred for counseling due to school adjustment concerns.5. Provide counseling interventions and social skills training in an individual/group setting.6. Consult with staff and guardians regarding student concerns and refer to outside agencies as appropriate.7. Facilitate the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans8. Actively participate in the Building Emergency Response Team and Child Study Team Meetings.9. Background knowledge of and experience with students who have emotional disabilities autism spectrum disorder and other social/adjustment challenges.10. Assists teachers and staff in behavioral interventions and strategies to assist learning.11. Develop and implement a positive system of student recognition.12. Recommend change of class or school special tutoring or other treatment to assist in helping students succeed.13. Ensure that all students are offered equitable opportunities to participate in school activities.14. Provide resources for faculty and parents to address students needs.15. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all members of the school community to carry out responsibilities.16. Provides the assigned student population the help needed to become acquainted with the educational programs support services policies and procedures and facilities of the school system.17. Provide counseling services as defined in students IEP and 504 plans.18. Maintains a point of contact for all students and their parents in terms of academic behavioral and social progress. 19. Other duties as reasonably assigned by the Principal Assistant Principals and/or Director of Student Services.
