Job Summary

The Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree. We invite applicants whose research focuses on food and nutrition policy and who have experience using quantitative methods to evaluate the effects of public policies on diet and health. The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of scholars at Penns Center for Food and Nutrition Policy with opportunities to generate and disseminate evidence that informs food policy debates nationally and globally.

Candidates with backgrounds in health policy nutrition epidemiology economics psychology or related fields are encouraged to apply.

Teaching responsibilities may include courses in research methods population health health policy or food and nutrition. Faculty candidates will have opportunities to mentor awide range of graduate students medical students residents clinical fellows undergraduates and postdoctoral trainees.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include include establishingan innovative and independent research program that includes publications in leading peer-reviewed journals and that can be supported with extramural funding from government agencies and private foundations.

The position will be based in the Division of Health Policy which is within the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. The Division has faculty who are trained in economics medicine psychology epidemiology and public health and who do research in a broad array of areas including health economics behavioral economics health services health equity physician and patient behavior aging social determinants of health global health and food policy.

The successful applicant(s) for this position(s) will:
(1) Demonstrate their ability to develop and maintain a high-impact research program including extramurally funded projects;
(2) Increase the Departments instructional and research capacity in their areas of focus;
(3) Contribute to the Departments mission through collaboration with other faculty members staff and students.
(4) Engage with policymakers healthcare organizations and community stakeholders.
