Summary:
This role is pivotal in providing comprehensive legal advice and assistance on housing management and landlord-tenant matters. The position involves handling both routine and complex litigation cases ensuring the protection of Southern Housing and its Group partners interests. The role requires collaboration with senior team members and external solicitors contributing to the development of in-house legal services and maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders. The position also involves supporting junior team members and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice on routine and complex housing management and landlord-tenant issues.
- Conduct litigation efficiently including anti-social behaviour injunctions possession claims and housing disrepair claims.
- Prepare and draft legal documents such as pleadings claim forms and witness statements.
- Assist in developing in-house legal services to meet organizational needs.
- Ensure effective communication between instructing officers and the legal team.
- Implement processes for efficient provision of housing management and litigation services.
- Maintain data records and ensure sound data management.
- Stay updated with legal and regulatory frameworks affecting Housing Associations.
- Support junior legal team members and assist senior team members.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients suppliers and external partners.
- Provide cover for other solicitors and the Legal Services Manager (Litigation) as needed.
Requirements
- Valid Law Society Practising Certificate (for solicitors) or Bar Council certificate with litigation capability (for barristers).
- Experience in housing management and landlord-tenant law.
- Strong litigation skills including drafting and advocacy.
- Ability to work collaboratively with senior and junior team members.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficiency in data management and compliance with legal frameworks.
Required Skills:
Demonstrated understanding of equal opportunities and the diverse needs of individuals. Compliance with Council policies including safeguarding financial regulations and health and safety. Ability to work outside normal hours when required with appropriate compensation. Strong communication and engagement skills. Experience in legal practice particularly in local government law.
