Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an Exciting Potential Opportunity for Inpatient and Outpaitient Release of Information (ROI) Medical Record Technician to support Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System in TempleTX.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be U.S. Citizen
  • High School degree/GED
  • Experience: 2 years
  • Must have Registered Health Information (RHIT) or Certified professional coder (CPC) certifications
  • Must have knowledge of all VA ROI related software (VistA. eROI CPRS GUI applications) HIPAA and Privacy Act disclosure requirements and VHA performance measures for ROI timeliness.

Must Demonstrate

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent confidentiality and judgment

  • Ability to follow complex privacy regulations

  • Ability to communicate professionally with Veterans and external requestors

Compliance Requirements

  • Adhere to HIPAA Privacy Act 38 U.S.C. 7332 FOIA and all VHA directives

  • Maintain awareness of privacy and records-handling laws

  • Complete required annual VA training

  • Follow privacy requirements for sensitive diagnoses and protected categories

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and release medical records in accordance with HIPAA Privacy Act and VA policy

  • Verify authorization and legal validity before releasing patient information

  • Ensure all requests meet regulatory and privacy requirements

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and disclose only the minimum necessary PHI

  • Process Veteran and third-party requests accurately and within mandated timeframes

  • Complete 100% validation and documentation for all release activity

  • Handle urgent and STAT requests promptly

  • Maintain accurate disclosure records for auditing and compliance

  • Document actions in VA electronic systems with complete audit tracking

  • Communicate with clinical staff Privacy Officers and authorized requestors

  • Escalate unclear or questionable requests to appropriate authority

  • Assist Veterans with consent documentation when needed

  • Participate in ongoing quality reviews and compliance monitoring
