Job Summary

Kearney Public Schools is accepting applications for a BehavioralInterventionist for Cottonwood Elementary startingthe 2026-2027 school candidate willing to serve at our K-5 Alternative School The position can either be certified or classified.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education: BA or MA in Special Education; Specialist in School Psychology; OR Licensed MentalHealth Practitioner (LMHP). Endorsement in Behavior Disorders preferred but not required
  2. Experience: Experience in Behavior Disorders preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Include but are not limited to)

  1. Assesses district needs in the area of Behavior Intervention.
  2. Builds systemic intervention programs district-wide.
  3. Provides assistance and direction to SPED staff who work with Behaviorally Disordered students. Works collaboratively to write behavior intervention plans for students.
  4. Develops effective behavior intervention plans and works with staff to implement those plans effectively.
  5. Assesses the effectiveness of intervention plans and leads in the development of adjustments if necessary.
  6. Provides information and insight into specific student needs to enable staff to work with students more effectively.
  7. Develops strong networks of support with parents teachers and administrators for the targeted behavior interventions. Networking should include effective dialogue and training to build effective collaboration.
  8. Develops a strategic district behavior intervention plan that assesses the needs and matches resources to priority needs. Communicates and promotes the district plan to the staff and the general public.
  9. Provides training and modeling for the implementation of behavior interventions.
  10. Maintains effective professional relationships with community agencies.
  11. Provides leadership for the completion of diagnostic and evaluation teamwork in the development of intervention plans.
  12. Assists in required referrals to medical and Community agencies.
  13. Maintains accurate records and files with required data.
  14. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Public Laws that govern the Federal and State requirements pertaining to Special Education.
  15. Keeps Supervisors and Administration informed of the activities and progress of the district Behavior Intervention program.
