About the Role

As a Progression Mentor you will provide dedicated holistic support to learners across the college ensuring their engagement progression and wellbeing are prioritised. Youll play a key role in improving attendance academic outcomes and personal development through proactive intervention and advocacy.

Your work will focus on supporting learners with mental health challenges complex social emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and those with caring responsibilities. Youll collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to create a positive inclusive learning environment.

What Youll Do

  • Build strong trusting relationships with learners to identify and overcome barriers to success.

  • Develop tailored mentoring and support plans for learners with diverse needs.

  • Deliver engaging group sessions on wellbeing resilience and personal development.

  • Monitor attendance and academic progress intervening early to prevent disengagement.

  • Work closely with safeguarding teams to ensure learners are safe and supported.

  • Advocate for learners in multi-agency meetings and disciplinary processes.

  • Maintain accurate records and evaluate the impact of support strategies.

What Were Looking For

  • Essential Skills:
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills ability to de-escalate challenging situations and experience in planning and delivering group sessions.

  • Qualifications:
    English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) and a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or a related field.

  • Experience:
    Proven background in supporting learners with mental health challenges and SEMH needs plus experience in educational or support settings.

  • Desirable:
    Degree-level qualification conflict resolution skills and knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
