The school leadership understands that early behaviour challenges often reflect unmet social emotional or developmental needs. With increasing demand for targeted behavioural support the school is seeking a committed and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to support pupils in Nursery Reception and Key Stage 1.
The Behaviour Mentor will provide specialist support to pupils who struggle with behaviour management emotional regulation or social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs ASD ADHD attachment difficulties or developmental delays affecting their engagement in school life.
You will provide consistent support acting as a trusted adult both in classrooms and during small group interventions. The role focuses on helping children build resilience self-confidence and positive social skills while supporting teachers and parents with behaviour strategies.
Deliver 1:1 behavioural and emotional support to children
Facilitate small group programmes targeting emotional literacy social skills and self-regulation
Support children across Nursery Reception and Key Stage 1 classrooms
Assist pupils with transitions routines and coping with change
Support behaviour management during playtimes lunchtimes and unstructured periods
Implement and monitor behaviour support plans
Use restorative play-based and trauma-informed strategies
Observe record and track pupil progress and responses to interventions
Work collaboratively with teachers EYFS staff SENCO and pastoral teams
Build effective and professional relationships with parents and carers
Contribute to planning review meetings and multi-agency discussions
Support safeguarding and child protection policies
Promote a school culture of empathy inclusion and respect
The ideal candidate will be empathetic patient and resilient with a strong commitment to supporting young children. You will understand that challenging behaviour is communication and respond with consistent structured strategies.
You should have:
Experience working in Primary Nursery or EYFS environments
Knowledge of SEND SEMH attachment difficulties ASD or ADHD
Confidence implementing behaviour interventions and monitoring impact
Excellent communication teamwork and interpersonal skills
Emotional resilience and reflective practice
Flexibility and proactive approach
Relevant qualifications in education childcare psychology youth work or mental health are desirable.
