We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Paraeducator (SPED Para) to support students with disabilities and assist in the delivery of individualized instruction in the classroom.

Position Overview: The Special Education Paraeducator will work closely with students with special needs providing support in academic social and behavioral areas under the guidance of certified special education teachers. This position requires someone who is patient flexible and passionate about supporting the learning and development of students with diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Special Education teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students in various subjects including reading math and social skills.
  • Support students in developing independence in the classroom by encouraging participation and self-advocacy.
  • Help with classroom management maintaining a structured and positive environment.
  • Implement behavior management techniques and interventions as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with personal care needs and support students during transitions between activities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers other staff members and parents to ensure that students are making progress toward their goals.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times such as lunch recess and field trips.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress activities and behavioral observations.
  • Attend professional development and training sessions as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Experience working with children especially in a special education or classroom setting (preferred).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers staff and families.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Patience empathy and a genuine desire to support the success of students with disabilities.
  • Ability to adapt to the varying needs of students and adjust support strategies as necessary.
  • Basic understanding of special education principles and practices (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or higher or relevant coursework in Special Education or related fields (preferred).
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with students who have emotional/behavioral disabilities autism or other developmental disabilities.
