Job Summary:
The City of Greeley is seeking an Accountant II to join the Accounting Team as part of the Finance Department. This position will report directly to the Accounting Manager and will be responsible for completing journal entries and analysis of assigned funds assisting with the completion of the Citys annual external audit supporting the creation of the annual comprehensive financial report providing other financial reporting and completing regular accounting functions.
Experience Knowledge Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in accounting finance or related field.
Three (3) years of experience with complicated practices and precedents and an in-depth knowledge of governmental accounting practices.
Must have in-depth knowledge of governmental accounting practices to create detailed records and to complete the annual audit and monthly reconciliations of assigned funds.
Knowledge of grants federal regulations reporting and compliance.
Knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
OR
Any combination of related education experience certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
AND
Possession of a valid drivers license.
Preferred Requirements:
Five (5) years of governmental accounting experience.
Demonstrated experience working with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
Report building experience with Power BI Oracle BI or another business intelligence program.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of accounting principles practices and standards including Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200 and the organizational and financial structure of Colorado municipalities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook) Oracle and able to learn and adapt to new software and systems.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Skilled in preparing analyzing and presenting financial data schedules and reports and developing recommendations for policy or procedural improvements.
Ability to work independently with sound professional judgment and as part of a collaborative team.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral written and listening) with the ability to engage diverse audiences and foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrates initiative strong work ethic problem-solving abilities and a focus on achieving organizational goals.
Ability to navigate complex political environments and identify solutions to emerging issues.
Attention to detail with the ability to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting and financial standards.
Travel: Category A-Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings trainings or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.
Essential Functions:
Prepares assigned fund statements and schedules for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) in compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards by compiling analyzing and reconciling financial data using spreadsheets system-generated reports and monthly reports.
Reviews analyzes and reconciles fund and account activity monthly; prepares related reports and journal entries and communicates with other departments regarding transactions.
Audits expenditures to ensure they are within the approved budget and revenues align with estimates; monitors and ensures compliance with governmental accounting policies regulations and GASB standards.
Maintains supporting financial records and reports for assigned funds.
Identifies and resolves accounting issues by applying professional judgment and established standards developing procedures as needed to ensure accurate tracking and documentation.
