Staff Accountant

***A minimum of 5 years ofaccounting and/or budgeting experience is preferred.
***Preference will be given to individuals with municipal or government accounting and/or budgeting experience.
General Purpose:
Under general supervision of the Finance Director the Staff Accountant performs accounting duties including general ledger reconciliations bank reconciliations financial reporting and general financial record keeping; maintains a variety of accounts and subsidiary ledgers for various city functions including developer agreements and escrows and capital assets; manages the accounts payable receivable and cash reconciliations for the City; assists with the City budget preparation annual audit and work papers and performs a variety of accounting functions relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
Reporting Relationships:
General supervision is provided by the Finance Director.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

a. Bachelors degree in accounting finance or related filed with five (5) years ofaccounting experience.
b. Must possess a valid Texas Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record orability to obtain one.
c. Must be able to successfully complete a drug screening and background check.

d. Any combination of education and experience which would provide theapplicant with the desired knowledge skills and abilities required tosuccessfully perform the job.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Overall accounting functions and operations of the city; Organization and operation of municipal government; Principles and practices of budgets and administration; Principles and practices of accounting; Principles and practices of customer service; Principles of business letter writing; Policies and procedures of the assigned department; English usage spelling grammar and punctuation; Methods and techniques of data collection research and report preparation; Modern office procedures methods and equipment including computers and supporting applications; Principles and practices of record keeping and records management.
Skills in: Interpersonal relationships initiative resourcefulness creativity problem solving; Advanced office procedures and in the operation of standard office equipment including computer keyboard 10-key data entry; Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word Excel PowerPoint Publisher and Outlook); Proficiency in Canva; Exceptional customer service; and time management.
Ability to: Work independently in absence of supervision; Respond to citizen inquiries politely; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; Keep confidential information confidential; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Handle money accurately; Edit and proofread documents accurately; Exhibit regular and punctual attendance; Exercise judgment decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of general duties which are characterized by frequent change; Bend and reach to file classify categorize prioritize and/or analyze data and/or information; sustain sedentary to light work which may involve some lifting sorting carrying objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
