About the Role
As a Design Studio Engineer you will work with many team members to make the design vision a reality.From developing initial engineering concepts for a new design guiding and integrating multiple engineering and manufacturing inputs into the A surface providing alternative proposals that enable new ways of reconciling functional requirements and thematic intent to building a suitable physical model that makes the concept and reality.
This position reports directly to the Design Engineering Manager and is based at the Design Studio in Broadmeadows operating on a hybrid schedule with four days in the office.
Feasibility Leadership:Lead the comprehensive feasibility development process for new vehicles spanning from initial concept ideation to refined production surfaces.
Design Innovation:Develop compelling proposals for new vehicle designs that push boundaries and establish design leadership.
Trade-off Management:Expertly lead the balancing of functional and attribute trade-offs throughout the design feasibility progression ensuring optimal solutions.
Studio Feasibility Process:Drive the Design deliverables for feasibility progression through the established Studio Design feasibility process.
Conceptual Engineering:Lead up-front design feasibility engineering activities providing crucial conceptual support and integrating upper body functional requirements to support design and feasibility development.
CAD-Based Layouts:Lead the development of CAD-Based Zone Layouts for Studio Design Feasibility integrating functional feasibility and Design requirements.
Surface Development:Guide the development of feasibility surface proposals throughout theme and surface development stages.
Creative Problem Solving:Apply a strong functional and appearance focus to generate creative solutions and alternatives for engineering and vehicle package issues supporting Design Leadership.
System-Level Studies:Conduct system-level studies of Design Studio and program alternatives in advance of functional and/or supplier support.
Digital Model Development:Develop and maintain Surface Scaffold files to enable efficient physical and digital model development and theme overlay.
Data Management:Oversee data management processes within into and out of the studio environment.
Education: Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or automotive equivalent.
Experience (Vehicle Layout): Minimum 5 years of proven experience in complete vehicle layout/package including Body-In-White and Trim.
Communication & Leadership: Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills capable of leading presentations and discussions in decision-making forums.
Technical Proficiency (CAD & Design): Highly proficient in CAD software with a strong understanding of design studio procedures and the design feasibility progression process.
Legislative Knowledge: Strong familiarity with legislative requirements impacting the design feasibility process.
Feasibility Tools: Demonstrated understanding and application of various feasibility tools particularly within the design studio environment.
Production Process Knowledge: Strong understanding of automotive production processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Creative Environment Experience: Experience working with designers and/or in a creative studio environment.
Adaptability & Multi-tasking: Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment adapting quickly to constant shifts in priority.
