Job Description

DEPARTMENT AND LOCATION OF JOB:

Ross Hall 103 FVCC Kalispell Campus Chemistry Department

ELIGIBILITY:
Students must be Work Study Eligible (as determined by Financial Aid)

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT:
Academic Calendar Year 2025/2026

WORK SCHEDULE:

Flexible schedule between Monday and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May work up to 19 hours per week.

DRESS CODE:

Casual with appropriate coverage; requires wearing closed-toe shoes and personal protective equipment (PPE) in lab setting;required safety equipment is provided by supervisor

POSITION PURPOSE/ROLE:

Under the minimal supervision supports Chemistry Department Laboratory and supervisor

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Cleans organizes and maintains order in the chemistry lab and stockroom; and includes cleaning glassware
  • Assists with updating chemical inventory
  • Sets up and takes down chemistry labs as directed
  • Set up and take down forensic labs as directed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current FVCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester and
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures/protocols and
  • Basic lab and technology skills and
  • Ability to work independently with a minimal level of supervision as well as in a team environment and
  • Ability to problem-solve and be self-motivated; and
  • Organizational skills and attention to details and
  • Ability and willingness to provide quality customer service; ability to demonstrate a cooperative spirit in working with students faculty and supervisor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Chemistry and forensic or Lab related course history

STUDENT SKILL DEVELOPMENT:

Communication critical thinking effective reasoning planning lab technology lab safety adherence customer service

PREDICTED OUTCOME:

Practical competence customer service critical thinking collaboration communicating effectively technological competence demonstrating professionalism

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

  • Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits for fall or spring semester to qualify for student employment.
  • Students may not work beyond 19 hours per week during semester.
  • Student workers shall be actively engaged; no use of cell phones (except in case of emergency) or social media.
  • Student workers shall demonstrate a commitment to the job with adherence to work schedule effective communication/interpersonal skills and quality customer service skills to be a representative of FVCC.
