Role Overview:

Working with other members of the Policy Team the Policy and Data Specialist will assist in developing and maintaining relationships with policy makers in coordination with other team members; research and evaluate policy to help identify and support effective policy options; provides expert guidance on and help determine how well our policy priorities align with our strategic plan; provide data research supporting the development of targeted and informative educational narratives related to our policy priorities; and leads efforts in identifying potential impacts of our policy priorities on our members patients partners other stakeholders and Kansans in general. The position will also serve as support or lead staff on policy-focused special projects.

Major Duties:

  • Supports Community Cares efforts related to collaboration and collective action between Community Care state associations and agencies member clinics and other stakeholders to advance legislative regulatory licensing and payment policy.
  • Conducts policy analysis and research on current proposed or potential policies that impact member clinics or the communities/patients they serve.
  • Identifies and communicates to Community Care leadership best practices for consideration for legislative regulatory and other policy change including other states experiences with similar policies.
  • Creates maintains and manages a legislative tracking system to keep Community Care leadership apprised of legislative activity affecting member clinics or the populations they serve.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive data analysis processes to support Community Care legislative and advocacy development and messaging.
  • Staffs the Community Care Legislative Committee working with the leadership team on agenda development and timing of meetings.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in business healthcare finance healthcare policy public administration or similar field of study; Masters degree preferred.
  • One to five (1-5) years of work experience in related field.
  • Unrestricted Drivers License required.
  • Ability to promote a professional and positive appearance and work environment.
  • Ability to make sound well-informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and written.
  • Strong interpersonal organizational written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills; willingness to seek input regularly for process improvement.
  • Passion and commitment to improving health in Kansas.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple individuals and manage several projects at once with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated poise tact and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly maintain stationary position with regular need to relocate to attend meetings internally and externally.
  • Ability to read computer screens and operate computer peripherals for an extended period of time or the ability to discern electronic information through reasonably available accommodations.
  • Regularly communicate with staff members and stakeholders in writing video conferencing and in-person meetings.
  • Ability to lift or have the ability to utilize reasonably available resources to maneuver up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Regularly required to speak and hear sit stand bend stoop kneel and walk.
  • Ability to travel as needed within the State of Kansas and nationally.

Work Environment:

  • Professional fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment in an office setting with regulated temperatures and moderate noise level.
