Description Intensivist Visiting Medical Officer (VMO)

We seeking a motivated collaborative and patient-focused Intensivist (VMO) to join busy and growing ICU service in NSW Mid North Coast.

The Opportunity
In this VMO position you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality contemporary intensive care to a diverse adult casemix within a Level 5 ICU. You will work alongside a highly respected team of Intensivists with backgrounds in anaesthesia emergency medicine general medicine and advanced echocardiography.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive specialist ICU/HDU care in collaboration with co-admitting VMOs
Supervise mentor and support junior medical officers and trainees across the hospital
Engage compassionately with patients and families ensuring clear communication and continuity of care
Actively participate in safety quality and governance activities
Contribute to ongoing research and clinical improvement initiatives within the unit
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across the hospital
About the ICU
- Level 5 ICU 10-bed combined ICU/HDU
- Broad range of adult medical and surgical presentations
- Occasional paediatric patients who are stabilised and transferred to tertiary paediatric services
- Supportive collegiate team culture with strong emphasis on education and innovation
- Well-equipped unit with access to skilled senior nursing staff and allied health colleagues
About you
We are seeking a committed Intensivist who is:
- FRANZCA FCICM or equivalent
- Experienced in providing high-level ICU care in an Australian or comparable healthcare setting
- Passionate about teaching and strengthening junior medical workforce skills
- Collaborative approachable and aligned with patient-centred values
- Interested in contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives
