Job Summary

Job summary: The Product Development Team will work closely with the customer on design and development activities for projects. The Product Design Engineer will be based out of the Plymouth Michigan location with work-from-home flexibility and will report to the Head of Product Development NA. The main focus of this role will be to support different OEMs located in the US such as Ford GM Stellantis etc. on the acquisition of new projects for extruded aluminum alloys products solutions with a focus on crash-management-structures BIW structures battery-enclosures etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of automotive products including:
    • Extraction of necessary information from OEM requirements
    • 3D CAD and drawings
    • Evaluation and supervision of internal testing
    • Root cause analysis and problem solving
  • Support of the manufacturing plant with Engineering changes etc.
  • Support of Sub-suppliers with data transfer etc.
  • Examples are not all-inclusive and may be adjusted as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or comparable (required)
  • 2 years of product design experience (required)
  • Working knowledge of Office and MS products (required)
  • GD&T knowledge (required)
  • CAD experience: CATIA v5 (preferred)

Duties: Support different original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) located in US (Ford GM Stellantis) on the acquisition of new projects for extruded aluminum alloys products solutions with a focus on including but not limited to: crash-management-structures body in white (BIW) structures and battery-enclosures. Design and develop automotive products by extraction of necessary information from OEM requirements and using understanding of aluminum products & materials and aluminum extrusion and other manufacturing processes for Design for Manufacturing (DFM). Create and/or modify 3D CAD and drawings. Perform change management in Product Life Management (PLM) software. Support Manufacturing plant with Engineering changes and support sub-suppliers with data transfer.

May work from anywhere within commuting distance; travel to the office when required.

Requirements: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus 2 years of experience. Required skill set: Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); CATIA CAD; aluminum products & materials; aluminum extrusion and other manufacturing processes; change management Product Life Management; regulatory requirements and crash testing; component testing; root cause analysis and problem solving.
