We are urgently seeking a Staff Nurse Theatre (Perioperative) for our hospital in Westmeath Ireland.
Responsibilities
Deliver comprehensive evidence-based nursing care across all perioperative phases anaesthetic scrub and recovery.
Prepare and maintain the operating theatre ensuring a safe sterile and efficient environment.
Assist the anaesthetist during induction maintenance and emergence from anaesthesia ensuring safe patient positioning and airway management.
Act as scrub nurse during surgical procedures maintaining aseptic technique correct instrumentation and accurate swab counts.
Monitor patients in the Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) assessing airway vital signs and pain and provide appropriate interventions.
Safely administer prescribed medications and treatments in line with hospital policies and professional standards.
Advocate for patients safety comfort and dignity and provide reassurance education and emotional support to patients and families.
Collaborate with surgeons anaesthetists operating department practitioners and the multidisciplinary team contributing to briefings and debriefings.
Participate in clinical audits theatre efficiency projects accreditation activities and promote a culture of safety through incident reporting and risk management.
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure proper care handling and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
Requirements
Registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.
Minimum of 3 years post-registration full-time nursing experience with at least 1 year in perioperative nursing or a related specialty.
Demonstrated clinical and administrative capacity to effectively discharge the functions of the role.
Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Relevant perioperative nursing experience in scrub anaesthetic or recovery roles or a combination thereof.
Experience in both elective and emergency surgical procedures.
Familiarity with electronic documentation and theatre management systems.
Evidence of participation in quality improvement or patient safety initiatives.
