Job Summary

We are seeking a Cultural Support Advisor to join the NPTSS project team on a 12-month fixed-term contract for 20 hours per week.

Tū Ora Compass Health is part of a newly established consortium of six Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) working together to deliver the Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS). This nationally coordinated regionally responsive Scheme is designed to support nurses during the final year of their Nurse Practitioner (NP) training and the first 6 months following registration.

Our six PHOs are recognised as strategic influencers within the health system. Collectively we support more than 450 general practices across key regions providing reach local insight and sector expertise. We will collaborate with other parts of the health sector nationally and regionally who may employ NP trainees as part of this programme.

As a collective we are committed to ensuring the NPTSS is scalable equitable and responsive to the diverse needs of NP trainees including those working in urban rural and isolated communities across Aotearoa.

About The Role

As the Cultural Support Advisor you will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting the next generation of Nurse Practitioners through the NPTSS programme by providing expert cultural advice on embedding Mātauranga Māori. You will be responsible for fostering cultural responsiveness to ensure equity and improved outcomes for Māori Nurse Practitioners within the training programme and support the implementation of a Māori Capabilities Framework.

This position will be required to tailor its approach and support in alignment with local tikanga kawa and iwi expectations while maintain consistency with the national schemes equity and workforce development goals.

What Youll Do

Guide NP Trainees with expert cultural advice on embedding Mātauranga Māori into their practice.

Build and maintain relationships with Māori communities and key stakeholders.

Provide mentorship and pastoral support ensuring their training journey is mana-enhancing and culturally safe.

Champion whānau ora approaches that acknowledge NP trainees cultural spiritual and community contexts.

What Youll Bring

A tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as Māori Health Indigenous Studies Public Health Social Work Nursing or Allied

Health (especially if registered).

Demonstrated expertise in Mātauranga Māori tikanga and kawa with strong connections to iwi hapū and Māori communities.

Proven experience in cultural supervision advisory roles preferably within health education or social services.

Experience providing mentorship pastoral care or cultural supervision.

Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in health equity and workforce development.

Excellent communication and relationship building skills across diverse communities and stakeholders.

Experience working in or alongside primary care PHOs or health development programmes.

Proficiency in te reo Māori and/or Pacific languages

Flexibility to work across both local and national settings adapting to regional and local tikanga.

Proven experience in collaborating across a diverse portfolio and managing relationships with numerous stakeholders

The ability to work independently when required and with excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
