Senior Advisor Pacific Disaster Risk Management Programme (Project Management)

Term: 24 months (Fixed-term or Secondment)

Location: Wellington-based Only

Lead programme delivery that strengthens resilience and emergency management capability across the region.

Were looking for a Programme Manager to manage and drive the Disaster Risk Management Programme. This role is all about making things happencoordinating projects managing budgets and ensuring deliverables are met. Youll work closely with technical experts government agencies and international partners to keep projects on track and outcomes delivered.

What youll do:

  • Oversee programme planning governance and reporting
  • Manage contracts budgets and procurement in line with government standards
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and lead engagement activities
  • Support continuous improvement and monitoring across the programme
  • Represent NEMA in key forums and contribute to emergency readiness

Due to the nature of our role in Emergency Management NEMA has a very dynamic work environment and as a small agency staff are often required to pivot and change focus on their work at short notice. Attributes of adaptability agility resilience and curiosity are all required on a daily basis in and out of times of emergency response.

We are looking for a candidate with the following attributes:

  • Proven experience in programme and project management ideally in government or international development
  • Strong financial and contract management skills
  • Ability to manage complex work plans and deliver results under pressure
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Adaptability sound judgment and a collaborative approach

  • Experience as a programme manager ideally in the Pacific or across international development portfolios.
  • Flexible adaptable and solutions-focused with sound judgement and political awareness to make effective decisions in complex situations.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills including engagement with senior stakeholders.
  • Has high standards of professionalism integrity and accountability.
  • Willing and able to travel internationally.
  • Willing and able to support response on short notice including after hours and weekends.
