Mō te tūranga About the role

The Department of Conservation have recently made exciting changes in how we deliver our work so we can achieve the conservation outcomes were aiming for.

As part of this weve introduced a new role: Statutory Advisor. Reporting to the Statutory and Community Manager youll be kept busy managing and processing permissions and regulatory applications for the region.

This role will have a strong focus on supporting the implementation of Te Ture Whakatupua mō Te Kāhui Tupua 2025/ Taranaki Maunga Collective Redress Act 2025 within the National Park- Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki.

The position will be focussed on:

  • Utilising your strong relationship skills to continue collaboration and partnerships with nga iwi o Taranaki and the maunga entities.

  • Using your expertise to provide advice to resolve complex strategic issues and opportunities

  • Bringing your continuous improvement mindset to identify areas of efficiency

  • Using your excellent communication skills to provide clear advice and updates to both internal and external stakeholders

  • Collaborating and maintaining positive working relationships to keep things moving and ensure customers have a positive and timely experience when it comes to regulatory and statutory work

If you have some of following we are keen to hear from you:

  • A tertiary qualification in regulatory statutory legal or a related field would be advantageous

  • Some experience in applying policy statutory processes and legislation to assess risk complexity and priority with an understanding of the natural resource policy environment.

  • Analytical thinker with the ability to gather and interpret information to provide technical advice to applicants and stakeholders

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and keep everything on track to meet deadlines

  • Experience understanding and applying iwi/ hapū perspective to inform decisions

  • Problem solving and continuous-improvement mentality always seeking ways to improve systems and processes

  • A collaborative team player who can build rapport easily with a range of people to get desired results

  • Understands where the MāoriCrown relationship plays a key role in DOCs responsibilities and decision making

The salary range for this position is $80054 - $101142 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
