Job Summary

Description

Sha Tin College is seeking to appoint a Head of Faculty (HOF) to ensure that students are at the centre of the Facultys aims and objectives as well as its practices and procedures. The HOF is a leader within the Faculty and across the College assisting teachers to develop their own teaching and other professional skills and advocating for students in their subject areas. The HOF is instrumental to the continued development of the College and as part of senior leadership will be responsible for the vision leadership and management of the Faculty in line with College Purpose and Values policies and procedures.

TEACHING LEARNING & CURRICULUM

  • lead the Faculty in developing and improving teaching and learning
  • encourage teachers to reflect on their practice and share their success with others
  • research best practice in pedagogy assessment and curriculum and lead discussion and debate of such research
  • contribute to leading a whole-school learning focus in partnership with others
  • monitor and evaluate teaching and learning within the faculty in line IB/IGCSE & College policy and procedures
  • establish priorities and goals for the Faculty that integrate with and support the College Purpose and Values as well as the College Development Plans
  • plan curriculum including developing and maintaining curriculum documentation in consultation with colleagues within the Faculty and across the College and in line with the requirements of IB/IGCSE policies and procedures
  • ensure curriculum documentation is updated regularly
  • maintain and develop assessment recording and reporting practices including oral assessment standardization and moderation strategies in line with IB/IGCSE and College policies and procedures
  • analyse and evaluate examination and student performance data to inform strategies for success.

LEADING THE FACULTY TEAM

  • create an atmosphere of mutual trust where collaboration discussion debate and innovation are promoted and can flourish
  • provide support and guidance for Faculty colleagues in their interactions with students parents and other colleagues and act as a mentor to develop the capacity of others
  • identify staffing needs confer with and make recommendations to the Principal regarding the recruitment of new staff and guide these individuals through the induction process
  • liaise with colleagues in the relevant ESF curriculum group and in partner schools and PYP feeder primary schools and represent the Faculty at ESF curriculum committee meetings and other groups as needed
  • liaise and collaborate with other Heads of Faculty Heads of Department and Heads of Year as appropriate
  • facilitate leadership opportunities for Faculty colleagues to enable them to develop their leadership skills
  • recommend appropriate professional development for teachers and guide them to maximize CPD opportunities enabling leadership opportunities for Faculty colleagues where possible
  • conduct lesson observations of teachers within the Faculty and provide feedback to further enhance their professional development
  • contribute to school and ESF strategic initiatives and innovation networks.

MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION

  • chair Faculty meetings provide agendas and make minutes of these meetings accessible to staff
  • liaise with IB Coordinators & Examinations Manager with regard to examination entries and related matters
  • liaise with the Vice Principal/Senior Leader responsible for timetabling with regard to the deployment of staff
  • manage Faculty budget and resourcesincluding up-dating of inventories textbooks and other student learning resources as needed
  • contribute to and update various College publications including periodicals handbooks SMART social media and website where relevant
  • ensure that the learning environment and display areas in the Faculty are well maintained
  • provide support with the management of cover work for absent colleagues in the Faculty.

HEAD OF SPORTS

Coordinate and manage a competitive and balanced sports programme specific duties to include:

  • line manage teaching & support staff with extra-curricular sporting roles
  • schedule extra-curricular sporting activities
  • ensuring all competition league entries are complete & calendared where possible
  • recruit and appoint coaches/instructors for activities as required
  • support teachers & coaches responsible for extra-curricular sporting activities
  • coordinate the provision of equipment and school kit for extra-curricular sporting activities & representative teams
  • manage sports activities budget
  • review the branding of College sports and promote College sports using agreed branding
  • work alongside the Student Sports Council
  • manage all media issues relating to sports teams to ensure sporting participation & success is celebrated and highlighted
  • encourage map and record participation in sporting activities
  • provide support for gifted and elite athletes and liaise with HKSI
  • work with outside agencies to promote opportunities for sports development
  • coordinate overseas sporting trips
  • liaise with ESL/ESF & SJS for facility management
  • consider partnerships and opportunities with our Primary colleagues to support junior sports programmes

  • solid ICT skills
  • previous demonstrated leadership skills will be an asset.
