Role Description:

Arcadis is seeking a highly skilledSenior Estimatorwith advanced rail systems and MEP expertise to support cost estimating for major rail and transit infrastructure projects in the Northeast Region. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate detailed cost estimates for rail and M&E systems on projects such as stations maintenance facilities trackside infrastructure signaling and electrification. Your work will be instrumental in supporting and reviewing capital program bids budgeting and project delivery ensuring cost competitiveness and technical excellence. The position offers a flexible hybrid work schedule with 3 days per week in a New York City office and two days remote work.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimatesfor rail mechanical and electrical systems including tunnel ventilation fire/life safety station MEP system traction power substations distribution track OCS/third rail lighting communications signaling SCADA and rail electrification.
  • Analyze contract documents project drawings and specificationsto produce detailed take-offs and pricing for all M&E elements relevant to transit and rail infrastructure.
  • Lead M&E estimating activitiesfrom conceptual design through to final bid submission supporting both new construction and major rehabilitation projects.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering project management and procurement teamsto ensure thorough understanding of project scope technical requirements and operational impacts.
  • Engage with key subcontractors and suppliersto obtain competitive pricing and validate the scope for all M&E components.
  • Assess and quantify project risks and opportunitiesspecific to the transit/rail environment including operational constraints and regulatory requirements.
  • Support value engineering and life-cycle cost analysesto optimize system designs and project budgets.
  • Participate in bid reviews clarifications and negotiationsas a subject matter expert for M&E cost elements.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry standards transit regulations and technological advancementsin railway M&E systems.
  • Mentor junior estimators and provide technical guidanceto the estimating team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Construction Management or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1015 years of estimating experience with a proven track record in rail systems mechanical and electrical systems for rail transit or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of transit-related M&E systems including traction power signaling station systems and code compliance (e.g. FRA NFPA NEC).
  • Strong proficiency in estimating tools and software (e.g. HCSS HeavyBid Sage Estimating CostX RS Means Bluebeam Excel).

Key Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with experience working in multidisciplinary teams and the ability to brief senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently prioritize tasks and meet critical deadlines.
  • Professional certifications (e.g. AACE PMP PE or equivalent) are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Amtrak processes federal procurement standards and FTA/FRA requirements is preferred.
  • Strong Knowledge of project management methodologies performance metrics and reporting standards.

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per salary range for this position is $150000 - $230000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors such as experience education budget internal equity project and location.
