| Up to 5% of total basic salary as end-of-contract gratuity may be offered to contract staff upon completion of the contract subject to satisfactory performance. |
Key Responsibilities:
1. | Specimen reception including sorting labelling registration of clinical specimens received. |
2. | Sort and pack specimens for subsequent dispatch to QMH and other laboratories. |
3. | Perform pre-analytical specimen preparation work and post analysis sample handling work. |
4. | Assist in preparation and filtering of stain and laboratory reagents. |
5. | Acknowledge receipt of Histopathology specimens from OT. |
6. | Add formalin to Histopathology specimens (including radioactive specimens). |
7. | Centrifuge blood samples for haematology tests and biochemistry tests. |
8. | Clean laboratory benches and equipment and perform decontamination procedures. |
9. | Record temperature of the refrigerators. |
10. | Assist in reception of blood and blood products from Red Cross. |
11. | Prepare blood segment of donor blood units for pre-transfusion compatibility testing. |
12. | Need to operate simple equipment such as automatic stainer centrifuge biological safety cabinet fume hood temperature logger water-bath and electronic balance. |
13. | Storage filing of blood smears and safe disposal of clinical and chemical wastes. |
14. | Assist the department in receiving goods and store management. |
15. | Assist in computer entry of inventory control items. |
16. | Assist in management of store room. |
17. | Require to do manual handling work. |
18. | Need to handle chemicals and radioactive specimens. |
19. | Answer telephone enquiries. |
20. | Need to operate computer in English medium. |
21. | Perform duties as assigned by supervisor. |
Entry Requirements
1. | Completed F.5 / S.5 or equivalent; AND |
2. | Completed structured departmental training (See remarks). |
Preferred Attributes / Exposure:
1. | Possess recognized Health Care Assistant Training / Care-related Support Workers Certificate. |
2. | Possess working experience in laboratory. |
3. | Good PC skills & knowledge in MS Word Excel and PowerPoint and other MS Office applications. |
4. | Self-motivated and able to work independently under pressure. |
5. | Fluent in spoken Cantonese and ability to speak English and Mandarin. |
6. | Education with certificate involved in medical laboratory science |

2. Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements (2) if find suitable will be employed to undergo at least 6 months on the job training. Employment may be terminated if the selected applicant cannot pass the assessment after training.
