Your new role
Southend-on-Sea City Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Adult Social Care Assessmentteam as a Financial Assessments Finance Officer on a full time and fixed term contract basis (until 31st March 2026). The ideal candidate will enjoy working with people and would like to make a difference to peoples lives by supporting adult social care service users. This role will be based within a fast-paced and forward-thinking team working across the office and at home.
The successful candidate will manage their own cases and provide advice and assistance to clients (or their representatives) to complete statement of financial circumstances forms in relation to their care needs. They will complete financial assessments to calculate the amount of contribution chargeable. They will also provide advice to clients on general welfare benefit matters and deferred payments. Ensuring financial processes are completed in accordance with Care Act 2014 and in line with council policy and procedures.
What youll need to succeed
To be successful in this role it is vital that you possess good communication skills demonstrating empathy whilst dealing with people from different backgrounds and also be able to communicate sensitive financial issues. It is also essential that you have a good level of numeracy and literacy and possess the ability to analyse financial data.
Previous knowledge of benefits and pensions and experience in a finance team or similar environment is advantageous. You need to be able to work on your own as well as part of a team and you must be able to manage your own workload.
