    Job Description
    Summary/objective

    As a key member of the Technical Support team the IT Asset and Support Specialist oversees the full lifecycle of technology assets at Great Plains Technology Center. This position identifies user technology needs requests bids if necessary and coordinates the ordering deployment and tracking of equipment from vendor to end user. The IT Asset and Support Specialist maintains accurate inventory records manages differentiated computer images and updates and plans for incremental system upgrades across all campuses while ensuring timely response through the help desk queue.

    Essential functions

    • Monitor work queues to ensure completion of work orders.
    • Plan deployment of new computers and devices per the refresh plan.
    • Evaluate technology needs for instructional and administrative environments; research and recommend appropriate hardware and software solutions based on use requirements and specifications.
    • Prepares and submits technology purchase recommendations in alignment with institutional standards and budgetary guidelines.
    • Prepare and request vendor quotes for computers and related technology that meet required specifications.
    • Manage technology inventory and asset tracking before during and after deployment.
    • Perform software and hardware installations and updates.
    • Execute moves additions changes and deletions for assigned workstations and peripherals.
    • Support and maintain equipment across multiple campus locations.
    • Provide after-hours and weekend on-call support as assigned.
    • Perform regular upgrades to ensure systems remain secure and up to date.
    • Troubleshoot system failures or bugs and implement solutions to restore functionality.
    • Coordinate maintenance sessions to identify and correct inefficiencies.
    • Maintain accurate records of repairs upgrades and configurations for future reference.
    • Provide timely technical support and assist users in effectively utilizing computer systems.
    • Collaborate with the Network Administrators and Technicians to support the performance and integrity of the IT infrastructure.
    • Develop maintain and deploy standardized computer operating system images for instructional and administrative environments via Microsoft Configuration Manager or alternate utility.
    • Ensure system images remain current with approved software drivers and security updates.
    • Coordinate imaging schedules and version control to support efficient deployment across all campuses.
    • Coordinating contractors performing installations and upgrades as required.

    Technical Proficiency & Problem Solving: Demonstrates deep understanding of hardware operating systems and networking fundamentals. Diagnoses and resolves technical issues quickly and efficiently implementing sustainable fixes that improve long-term system reliability.
    Customer Service Orientation: Exhibits patience professionalism and clarity in communication with staff and students. Builds positive relationships by providing responsive respectful and effective support that encourages technology adoption and trust in IT services.
    Attention to Detail: Ensures precision in system configuration software installation documentation and repair tracking. Pays close attention to potential points of failure or policy noncompliance to prevent issues before they occur.
    Adaptability & Initiative: Responds calmly and effectively to unexpected outages urgent support needs or hardware/software changes. Remains flexible under pressure taking initiative to solve issues creatively while adhering to policy and maintaining service continuity.
    Leadership & Collaboration: Supports teamwork within the IT department by sharing knowledge assisting with service calls assisting in larger infrastructure or security projects. Coordinates effectively with administrative and instructional departments to align IT support with institutional goals.

    Work Environment
    The IT Asset & Support Specialist works primarily within office classroom and technical lab environments. Work involves frequent use of computers printers networking equipment and related peripherals. Occasional work in mechanical or wiring areas (server rooms ceilings or crawl spaces) may be required. Evening or weekend hours may occur for system upgrades emergency repairs or institutional events.

    Physical Demands
    This role requires the ability to lift and carry computer equipment (up to 30 pounds) bend crouch and kneel during installations and stand or walk for extended periods. The technician must have manual dexterity for handling small components visual acuity for reading system details and the ability to work safely with electrical and electronic equipment in tight or elevated spaces.

    Travel required
    Occasional travel between Great Plains Technology campuses. Travel may also include professional development activities and participation in district-wide initiatives.

    Required education and experience

    • High School Diploma or equivalency
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Information Technology or equivalent technical support role
    • Experience with IT Inventory Management or Imaging and Deployment

    Preferred education and experience

    • Experience with wireless and other networking devices
    • CompTIA A Security or equivalent certifications. Ongoing training and professional development supported.
    • Experience with device management and asset tracking systems
    • Working knowledge of server-based or cloud-managed environments
    • Experience with Microsoft 365 preferred
