About DEQ!
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is the primary regulatory agency of the government of the U.S. State of Oregon responsible for protecting and enhancing the states natural resources. Here is a video about DEQ: Land Quality programs support this mission by assessing and managing environmental cleanups promoting manufacturing and recycling of non-toxic commercial products safely managing the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes administering the states underground storage tank and heating oil tank programs and responding to spills of oil and hazardous materials.
The Underground Storage Tank (UST) Compliance Program is within the Land Quality Division at Headquarters. DEQs UST Compliance Program which is authorized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a comprehensive regulatory program for UST systems storing petroleum or certain hazardous substances to protect the environment and human health from UST releases. DEQs UST Compliance Program works to prevent petroleum contamination of Oregons soil and groundwater by inspecting all regulated underground storage tanks and ensuring that tank permit holders perform the equipment testing and maintenance required to keep underground storage tank systems operating safely. The UST Compliance Program is a statewide program that combines headquarters and regional staff to complete our inspections.

What you will do!
You will coordinate and administer tasks associated with the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Program ensuring accurate and timely completion of UST permitting and Service Provider licensing. Work will include reviewing Your DEQ Online (YDO) submittals; reviewing and processing new installation applications; explaining laws rules and procedures to the public and staff; reviewing applications to decommission unregistered underground storage tanks; entering information into databases; reviewing owner modification submittals; responding to inquiries; drafting letters; managing electronic program documents using Oregon Records Management Solution (ORMS); and tracking field citations and corrective action addition you will review and process license applications; maintain licensing and underground storage tank databases; and serve as the primary contact for UST licensing matters providing technical assistance as needed and referring complex inquiries to technical or regional staff.

Minimum Qualifications: 2 years of secretarial or basic administrative support experience that included records processing generation of documents and gathering and sorting data.

This position will be based out of DEQs Headquarters office in Portland; however the successful candidate may be eligible for hybrid work. The logistics of hybrid work will need to be worked out with the Hiring Manager prior to your hire and may be changed at any time given specific job duties and business needs. DEQ will provide necessary hardware (laptop monitor keyboard mouse and cell phone) for an employee to successfully work from home. At DEQ sites you will have access to a workspace however it may be shared with other employees.
There will be occasional travel on official State business for meetings trainings conferences seminars and public hearings some of which may include evening work weekend work and/or overnight stays.
