Job Summary

Requirements:

You should have:

  • a Masters degree in Nursing Midwifery Public Health or a related clinical or health discipline
  • at least at least 3 years of experience preferably in data collection and analysis of field research or trial
  • demonstrated experience in maternal newborn and child health (MNCH) or reproductive health research programs preferably involving safe delivery newborn care and infection prevention
  • proven field monitoring and reporting skills including familiarity with mobile data collection platforms (e.g. ODK REDCap Kobo)
  • ability to make sound judgments in dynamic field environments including handling refusals unexpected events or ethical dilemmas
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to anticipate challenges and identify culturally appropriate solutions.
  • excellent interpersonal negotiation and communication skills for working with TBAs health workers and community members.
  • proficiency in local languages (e.g. Sindhi and Urdu) is essential Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • strong computer skills

Introduction:

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for coordinating and implementing community-based research activities focused on maternal and newborn health with a particular emphasis on engagement and capacity building of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs). The position requires close field supervision data oversight and effective liaison with communities to ensure high-quality ethical and culturally sensitive research implementation. Specific responsibilities include to:

coordinate and oversee field implementation of study activities in collaboration with TBAs and community stakeholders

provide hands-on training supervision and mentoring support to TBAs and field research teams

ensure accurate timely collection verification and reporting of quantitative and qualitative data

develop SOPs and a manual of operation for study activities

provide training to the study staff as per the protocols and guidelines of the study

monitor field progress troubleshoot operational challenges and ensure adherence to study protocols and ethical standards

facilitate effective community engagement resolve refusals or conflicts and maintain trust with participants and local leaders

preparation and compilation of the study progress report and presentation of the study results as per the requirement

develop high-quality research proposals for funding agencies; conduct research and contribute in publications.
