Location: Handsworth Leisure Centre and Small Heath Leisure Centre

We are looking for motivated and experienced Senior Leisure Assistants to join our Sport & Wellbeing Service team in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in supervising staff supporting the safe and efficient running of leisure facilities and delivering a high-quality customer experience.

As a Senior Leisure Assistant you will:

  • Act as a mentor coach and role model supporting the training and development of staff.
  • Take on the role of Duty Manager on a regular basis.
  • Maintain a high profile with customers and operational staff ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
  • Be the first point of contact for customers in a busy front-line service.
  • Demonstrate a passion for improving the health and wellbeing of local communities.
  • Stay up to date with centre programmes policies and procedures.
  • Take a proactive approach to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support staff including training development and performance reviews.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the facilities and all users.
  • Promote excellent customer service and uphold cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Support marketing and promotional activities.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety legislation and council policies.
  • Deputise for the Assistant Leisure Operations Manager as required.

What Were Looking For

  • Experience as a Senior Leisure Assistant or at least 1 year as a Leisure Assistant in wet/dry facilities
  • Staff supervision and welfare experience
  • Financial procedures and HR policy knowledge
  • Health and safety legislation understanding
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead motivate and manage a team
  • Organised analytical and able to work under pressure
  • Customer-focused

Essential Qualifications:

  • First Aid at Work
  • RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  • ISRM Pool Plant Operators Qualification or equivalent experience
