Your salary for the stated time period will be $110000. This appointment is not eligible for benefits except for statutory benefits.
You will be eligible to be reimbursed for travel and housing expenses during the period for you and your spouse up to the amount of $20000. You will need to submit itemized receipts to obtain that reimbursement.
Purpose:
The department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Santa Clara University a Jesuit Catholic University invites you to serve as the Paul R. and Virginia P. Halmos Endowed Visiting Professor for the period of January 1 2026 through April 30 2026.
Your duties will include the following:
Serve as the Paul R. and Virginia P. Halmos Endowed Visiting Professor.
Teach an in-person course during Winter quarter 2026 which runs from January 5 2026 through March 20 2026 with that last week set aside for final examinations.
Give a lecture as part of the Bay Area Mathematical Adventures lecture series during your visit.
Give a public lecture for the University community on a topic to be determined during your visit.
Give a mathematics colloquium for the Mathematics and Computer Science department during your visit.
The duties for the teaching will be as follows:
You shall teach one course during the Winter 2026 quarter subject to the terms and conditions of the Santa Clara University Faculty Handbook and Schedule of Classes.
a. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively;
b. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes and providing timely feedback to students;
c. Holding regular weekly office hours on- campus;
d. Submitting student grades that are appropriate accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline;
e. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for your course as set by your department chair;
f. Where applicable teaching from an approved syllabus for the University Core courses assigned or working with the Chair to design an appropriate syllabus for submission for approval from the relevant Faculty Core Curriculum Committee.
g. Shall fulfill other instructional or academic duties such as attending faculty meetings or department special events as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or the Chair of the Department.
h. Except in case of sudden illness or emergency any missed class meetings must be approved in advance by the case of sudden illness or emergency you shall be responsible for contacting the Chair to discuss coverage of the class meeting.
