Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Under the general supervision of the Hawaiian Culture & Place-Based Coordinator and the Ka Ipu Hookele Waa Grant Manager the Education Specialist will provide administrative support to meet the goal of the Ka Ipu Hookele Waa Title III grant to improve Native Hawaiian student engagement achievement and employability by increasing their digital literacy through a strengths-based culturally relevant curriculum focused on digital storytelling from an indigenous lens.
  2. Assist with review of budgets for completeness accuracy and compliance.
  3. Advise Principal Investigators on project spending responsible for fiscal actions and serve as a resource on fiscal matters at the project level.
  4. Assist with procurement functions including the preparation of purchase orders requisitions and honoraria.
  5. Ensure that all goods and services are purchased in compliance with Federal State and University guidelines and procedures.
  6. Provide assistance in financial accounting budget management contract administration and preparing travel requests and completions.
  7. Review and ensure the appropriateness and correctness of travel documents and processes for payment.
  8. Assist with annual performance reports.
  9. Participate in professional development activities including training workshops and conference travel.
  10. Perform other related project administration support duties as required.
  11. Assist with planning and implementation of activities to support the project goal.
  12. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a Baccalaureate degree in Business Administration Accounting or a related field and three (3) years progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for business or organization management or related; or a baccalaureate degree in Hawaiian Studies Hawaiian Language or a Social Sciences discipline with some coursework in Business Administration and/or related fields and two years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for business or organization management or related; or equivalent education/training or experience.
  2. Excellent planning organizational and management skills; strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  3. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of fiscal and personnel management practices as demonstrated by broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
  4. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with fiscal and personnel.
  5. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
  6. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in fiscal management.
  7. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  8. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  9. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
  10. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and spreadsheet software.
  11. Ability and willingness to work outside of regular scheduled work hours.


Desired Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of UH and RCUH policies and procedures.
  2. Knowledge of UH and RCUH Financial/HR Systems.
  3. Demonstrated direct knowledge of Hawaiian language culture practices protocols and values or major coursework (minimum of 24 credits) in Hawaiian Studies or related fields.
  4. Ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the retention of Native Hawaiians for continuing education.
  5. Demonstrated experience working directly with Native Hawaiian communities.
