Job Summary: The Special Education Teacher position is responsible for the evaluation of
students to development of appropriate educational goals and objectives. The
person in this position is responsible for implementing the school curriculum
individualizing instruction and establishing a positive learning environment.
Qualifications: Bachelor Degree; Previous work experience with people with multiple and
physical disabilities preferred; New Jersey Department of Education standard or
provisional certification as Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students
with Disabilities required; Excellent human relations skills and a working
knowledge of the English language in written and verbal form; Must have the
ability to work effectively with administrators colleagues school-based staff
students parents and community members; Must pass a criminal record history
check be able to receive clearance by the Department of Education and pass or
provide proof of a negative Mantoux test

Create a structured classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of

Relate lesson content to individualized student goals and objectives.
Maximize time on purposeful instructional tasks.
Plan and supervise field trips into the community consistent with curriculum and student goals and
objectives.
Provide job coaching as appropriate.
Appropriately recognize and reinforce individual student efforts.
Be well-organized and have all materials equipment etc. ready for immediate use.
Conduct ongoing assessments to guide the learning process and develop student goals and
objectives.
Demonstrate an understanding of the transdisciplinary process and personal assistant model.
Plan conduct and record transdisciplinary meetings for assigned classroom on a regular ongoing
basis.
Provide electronic transdisciplinary reports on assigned students by the date
established on the IEP supervisory schedule.
Provide weekly lesson plans for submission to supervisor on day specified based upon
individual transdisciplinary goals and objectives of the students.
Implement case management responsibilities for assigned classroom students.
Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures that are clearly understood by all support staff.
Consistently enforce the rules and follow the established procedures.
Ensure the provision of appropriate training for all assigned support staff.
Schedule and supervise classroom assistants as designated.
Maintain assigned program area and inventories request supplies equipment maintenance
and repair for designated program responsibilities.
Remain alert to situations which may be unsafe or potentially hazardous to students or staff
and report such situations to the Principal.
Submit reports electronically which reflect statistics as required.
Continue professional improvement through on-going education attendance at conferences
workshops in-service training and committees. Comply with NJ Department of Education
regulations regarding Professional Development Plans (PDP) for teachers.
Perform job activities that may involve moderate to strenuous activity including lifting
repetitive bending pulling pushing and stooping.
Cooperate fully with all licensing and accrediting operations of respective funding sources
including any inspections or investigations.
Comply with Agency Policies and Procedures including the Agencys Code of Ethics
