We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to join our City Assets team as a Senior this role you will play a key part in proactively managing tree-related risks to protect public safety and council assets while providing expert arboricultural advice to support sustainable urban growth. You will ensure public trees are appropriately considered in development planning community requests are addressed professionally and accurate records are maintained to support effective tree management across council operations.

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Assess and manage tree health and risk through inspections structural assessments and mitigation recommendations.
  • Provide arboricultural advice on development applications and council projects ensuring assessments are completed within required timeframes.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors for pruning removals and maintenance of public trees.
  • Respond to community requests and issues preparing clear reports and maintaining accurate records in tree management systems.
  • Support operational delivery by assisting the Team Leader and other departments with technical arboricultural expertise.

The successful applicant will have:

  • AQF Level 5 Diploma of Arboriculture or equivalent is essential.
  • Class C drivers licence.
  • Significant experience in arboriculture (typically 5 years).
  • Proven ability to:
    • Conduct comprehensive tree health inspections and structural risk assessments.
    • Assess development applications impacting council-managed trees and provide expert arboricultural advice.
  • Meet statutory timeframes and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and council policies.
  • Effectively manage arboricultural contractors and oversee works.
  • Utilise digital systems including GIS tree asset management software and Microsoft Office.
  • Respond professionally to community enquiries and service requests regarding public trees.
  • Prepare clear accurate reports and technical recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other council departments by providing specialist arboricultural expertise.
  • Maintain strict compliance with councils record management protocols and procedures.
  • Highly Desirable Qualifications:
    • TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification) or ISA Certified Arborist accreditation.
    • White Card (Construction Induction).
    • Work Zone Traffic Management accreditation.
    • First Aid Working at Heights and/or Chainsaw competency.
    • High Risk Licence.

This is a Level 5 position which has a current salary of $103808 (plus Super).
