To: All Teaching and Administrative Personnel Brockton Public SchoolsFrom: Dr. Kathleen Moran Executive Director of Human ResourcesSubject: High School ESL Curriculum Fellows Program (5 participants)PROGRAM OVERVIEWThe ESL Curriculum Fellows Program is a year-long curriculum apprenticeship designed to build teacher leadership capacity while developing essential course-level resources for our ESL program. Fellows will work collaboratively with the Department Head and ELD Coach to create standards-aligned course goals and UbD unit frameworks that provide instructional clarity for all ESL is an opportunity for experienced and emerging ESL educators to deepen their expertise in curriculum design WIDA standards alignment and the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework while contributing to program-wide coherence and STRUCTURETimeline: November 2025 July 2026 (9 months)Time Commitment: 86 hours total8 one-hour collaborative meetings (after school or virtual on weekends scheduled collectively)78 hours independent curriculum development workCOMPENSATIONCompensation: (86 hours contractual rate $39.70)Funding Source: Title III - 181 GrantQUALIFICATIONSCurrent ESL teacher at Brockton High SchoolsMassachusetts ESL licenseExperience teaching at least one ESL course (ESL 1 2 3 4 or Topics)Willingness to learn and apply UbD framework and WIDA standards alignmentAbility to work independently and meet deadlinesCommitment to contributing to department-wide curriculum coherenceNote: This opportunity is open to both veteran and newer ESL teachers. We are seeking a mix of experience levels and course Development:Develop course goals and descriptions aligned to WIDA and the Massachusetts Frameworks for your assigned ESL courseCreate 4-6 UbD unit frameworks (Stages 1 2 3) per course Participate in peer review and revision cyclesCollaboration & Learning:Attend 8 monthly collaborative meetings (approximately 1 per month) with Department Head ELD Coach and other Curriculum FellowsEngage in mini-professional development sessions on UbD framework and WIDA standardsCollaborate in structured peer review and provide constructive feedback on colleagues curriculum draftsDeliverables:Course goals document for assigned ESL course4-6 complete UbD unit frameworksParticipation in final synthesis of materials for department-wide useShare outcomes and insights from this work with departmental colleagues during a culminating session SELECTION PROCESSPreference will be given to applicants who:Represent diverse ESL course levels (goal: one Fellow per course strand)Demonstrate readiness for curriculum development workShow commitment to improving instructional clarity and coherence across the ESL programUp to 5 Fellows will be will report directly to the Department Head for Bilingual/ESL Services (Grades 912) and collaborate with the ELD Contact Fernanda Marinho Kray Department Head of Bilingual/ESL Services (9-12) TO APPLY: Submit a brief letter of interest (1 page) indicating:Which ESL course(s) you currently teachYour interest in curriculum development and leadershipYour availability for after-school or weekend meetings
