Job Summary
The MOSAIC study is aimed at improving cardiovascular disease risk prediction and care pathways across diverse populations in British Columbia (BC) and Yukon to advance personalized health innovations. Working alongside a team of experts in echo AI genomics and rural healthcare the Project Manager will play a central role in operationalizing a study that integrates multi-modal data and artificial intelligence (AI) for personalized cardiovascular care. The Project Manager acts as the operational coordinator for the program and works in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI) Co-leads of the Program the responsible Health Sector Manager and other key personnel at Genome BC the participating institutions and their investigators and research personnel co-sponsors and other key participants to ensure efficient management fiscal supervision and guidance and direction of other staff regarding the operation of the program. The Project Manager will support the computational teams engaged in bioinformatics data analytics and artificial intelligence. The Project Manager works in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment and must utilize strong time and project management techniques to balance the requirements of effective organization and efficient operation. This position utilizes excellent organizational skills in directing project activities across multiple disciplines and jurisdictions. The Project Manager assists in representing the Program to external stakeholders/parties including academic institutions regional provincial and/or national committees representatives of funding and government agencies industry partners task groups and working teams as required. The incumbent will have a track record of managing large-scale clinical or health research projects with multiple sites ideally in rural/remote or multijurisdictional contexts and possess a familiarity with health sector challenges including navigating the compliance data access and operational aspects of multijurisdictional data-driven research. Experience in managing budgets resource allocation and operational logistics within a healthcare or research environment is critical. The Project Manager will have exceptional organizational abilities with a focus on proactive problem-solving and adaptability as well as strong interpersonal skills to manage diverse teams facilitate cross-sector collaborations and communicate with clarity at all organizational levels.

Organizational Status
The Project Manager works in a team-oriented environment with MOSAIC Principal Investigators study personnel and with partners at the VCHRI AI Hub UBC ARC BCGSC to provide operational leadership to maintain project direction and momentum and to ensure fiscal oversight and full reporting to funding agencies. The Project Manager participates in designing and implementing objectives goals protocols and policies for MOSAIC in coordinating and executing the decisions of the Co-leads and research teams for each Activity and sub-Activity in supervising and recording the timely conduct and completion of each approved component of the research program and in ensuring the timely communication and scientific reporting of all relevant output from each of the approved Activities. The Project Manager also participates in broader discussions regarding public awareness and general communications laboratory coordination payer and provider considerations relations with study collaborators and partners funders provincial and federal government agencies and other bodies and in securing funding relevant to the continued success of the study.

Work Performed

Research:

  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive project plan that aligns with MOSAICs goals of improving CVD risk prediction and healthcare access in BC and Yukon.
  • Coordinates study activities across multiple clinical sites (15 hospital-based echo labs) and jurisdictions ensuring alignment with healthcare workflows resources and timelines.
  • Facilitates regular cross-functional meetings to track milestones address challenges and refine project strategies.
  • Provides leadership and project management for all research projects
  • Leads the submission of research proposals for grant funding
  • Prepares official reports to granting agencies and the University as required
  • Provides professional expertise organizational experience and operational support to ensure successful study execution at all participating sites.
  • Leads in executing the objectives goals and protocols set by the Co-leads and research teams for each Activity and sub-Activity.
  • Works closely with the clinical and sequencing laboratories echocardiography laboratories health data providers funding agencies and other bodies to support MOSAIC study objectives.
  • Facilitates broader discussions regarding public awareness laboratory coordination national activities data access considerations relations with provincial and federal government agencies and other bodies relevant to the successful operation of the study.
  • Oversees operation and administration of MOSAIC including development of strategic plans goals and objectives coordinates advisory committees and ensures that these are consistent with policies of the participating institutions.
  • Maintains an awareness of current precision medicine trends and issues and acts as a role model for continuous learning through literature review contact with peers at other organizations and attendance at seminars workshops and education programs.
  • Liaises with the Directors of the clinical programs laboratory programs and institutional management in the development of effective working relationships between teams and team members with whom work must be coordinated or interfaced.
  • Supports teaching and research training in order to encourage the development of highly skilled personnel in partnership with the relevant senior partners and the standards for excellence of the participating institutions.
  • Attends and participates in a wide variety of research or committee meetings relevant to the success of the study.

Strategic Planning:

  • Provides leadership and direction in problem solving project planning and management and development and execution of identified goals priorities and objectives.
  • Plans develops and assesses organizational requirements to provide authoritative information and advice on administrative processes and policies as well as all research activities.

Human Resources:

  • Directs the management of human resources for MOSAIC including recruitment training development coaching evaluation discipline and termination of staff.
  • Directs creates and implements short and long-term strategic human resource plans.
  • Develops and revises all support staff job descriptions in accordance with the operational plan.

Financial Planning and Reporting

  • Manages project budgets grant funding and resources providing regular financial and operational updates to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost-effectiveness and resource optimization ensuring the projects financial integrity.
  • Oversees vendor contracts and partnerships ensuring all deliverables meet defined quality standards and timelines.
  • Provides strategic advice with respect to project grant budgets and other associated financial matters.
  • Ensures compliance transparency and due diligence with grant finances including cost recovery and cost sharing opportunities.
  • Responsible for financial and outcome reporting required by Genome BC and Genome Canada.

Communications:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for clinicians researchers funders Indigenous partners industry collaborators and government.
  • Leads comprehensive communication strategies including progress reports stakeholder updates and briefing materials.
  • Assesses internal communications needs and develops strategies to encourage transparency collaboration and dialogue.
  • External communications involve working collaboratively with MOSAIC PIs and research facilitation teams at VCHRI and Faculty of Medicine to develop knowledge translation strategies for the research conducted by the MOSAIC team. This includes conducting needs assessments for each aspect of the project and each target audience in order to most effectively communicate research finding for maximal benefit of each audience.
  • Communicates with project investigators stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Represents MOSAIC and its work at provincial national and international meetings associated with knowledge translation and message dissemination.

Risk Assessment & Process Optimization:

  • Identifies and mitigates risks related to logistics data integrity and stakeholder engagement.
  • Implements process improvement measures using project management best practices to enhance efficiency and maintain high-quality standards.
  • Develops and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate and refine project processes.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supports multidisciplinary teams including specialists in AI genomics imaging epidemiology and rural healthcare.
  • Provides mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members cultivating a collaborative and inclusive culture.

Healthcare Analytics & AI Integration

  • Coordinates project activities involving AI-driven predictive modeling genomic data analysis imaging data (echo POCUS) and integration of complex clinical datasets.
  • Ensures that analytical outputs and data pipelines are aligned with project goals for equitable and personalized CVD risk assessment.
  • Collaborates closely with data scientists and technical experts to translate advanced analytics into practical clinical tools.

Regulatory & Ethical Compliance:

  • Ensures adherence to regulatory and ethical guidelines for clinical research across BC and Yukon.
  • Liaises with research ethics committees and Indigenous governance bodies to secure necessary approvals and maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Promotes culturally appropriate engagement strategies when working with Indigenous populations and rural communities.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
Decision making requires a high level of judgement consultation and coordination with the PI Co-leads other study personnel and collaborators members of funding organizations and relevant personnel in participating institutions in planning and implementing study activities. An error or the impact of a decision regarding administrative activities could result in problems grievances lawsuits and negatively impact on the teams ability to execute the project the units research reputation and budgets. The position entails a high level of confidentiality and responsibility.

Supervision Received
The Project Manager reports to the PI and receives guidance from Co-leads and communicates with the representatives of Genome BC collaborators and representatives of participating institutions operations team members sponsors and collaborators and other persons or groups as required.

Supervision Given
The Project Manager will work closely with provincial health authority research institutes clinical laboratories echocardiography and cardiology programs funding agencies and other bodies to support the activities of the study the technology transfer of the innovations evolving from MOSAIC. The Project Manager is expected to provide administrative support to team members (technicians students research fellows and co-investigators) on various aspects of the project activities and sub-activities.

Minimum Qualifications
For research work a post-graduate degree or equivalent professional designation with a minimum of four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Otherwise an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline is required with a minimum of six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
