ACADEMY OF LANGUAGE AND CULTURE (LAC)
The Academy of Language and Culture (LAC) launched 1st July 2024 is a dynamic institution initially comprising three departments: English Language and Literature (ENG) Humanities and Creative Writing (HMW) and Translation Interpreting and Intercultural Studies (TIIS). Our vision is to be a leading centre of excellence fostering linguistic diversity creative expression and intercultural communication. We empower students and scholars to bridge cultural divides and innovate in literary linguistic and translation arts contributing to a globally interconnected world. The Academy offers multidisciplinary programmes including the long-standing BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature BA (Hons) in Humanities BA (Hons) in Creative and Professional Writing and BA (Hons) in Translation (since 1990) along with a range of postgraduate offerings. Our faculty boasts international expertise reflecting our commitment to a globally connected academic environment. Recognised for excellence TIIS received top rankings in the 2020 Research Assessment Exercise for both research environment and impact. HMW also obtained the best performance in Humanities and achieved the highest marks for research environment while ENG demonstrated outstanding performance. Our commitment to creativity-inspiring education is reflected in our bilingual interdisciplinary curricula which combines courses offered across all Academy disciplines.
Assistant Professor ()
The Academy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. We seek candidates with expertise in cultural studies visual cultural studies and media studies particularly in aesthetics gender studies health humanities and environmental humanities. Scholars with experience in developing AI technology or AI-empowered projects are particularly encouraged to apply.
We are especially interested in candidates who are committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research and to developing and expanding the humanities with computational or technical expertise. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong programming skills and knowledge of AI methods with a proven ability to advance creative expression and innovation. An ability to collaborate with colleagues from different departments in the Academy is fundamental. Applicants with a proven international research record and a history of securing external research grants will be given preference.
Candidates should demonstrate methodological innovation and interdisciplinary integration in their research. An active research programme addressing contemporary issues in cultural studies and humanities is essential as is evidence of successful grant capture or well-developed grant proposals ready for incubation.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
The remuneration package includes retirement/gratuity benefits annual leave medical and dental scheme and relocation allowance wherever appropriate.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
