HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

First-Year & Transition Programs in the Office of Student Success is seeking an Assistant Director to contribute to successful retention progression and graduation of students especially those in their first year of college.The Assistant Director will lead first-year program staff and initiatives designed to help students successfully matriculate at Georgia State and help them reach their retention progression and graduation goals. The Assistant Director will create and implement effective programs designed to provide academic support for undergraduate students as they transition from high school and other collegiate institutions. The Assistant Director will play a major role in implementing the use of predictive analytics and proactive outreach to improve student outcomes. The Assistant Director will also serve as the university liaison to faculty and peer offices within and outside the enrollment services suite of offices. This position is on the front line of the institutions commitment to helping students from all backgrounds succeed at high rates.

Essential Job Functions

  • Leads and provides strategic planning for First-Year & Transition Programs suite of student success interventions including but not limited to Freshman Learning Communities GSU 1010: First-Year Experience course GSU 1050: Panther Restart and support for online collaboratively with campus partners in University Advisement Center and the Colleges for the creation of Freshman Learning Communities (FLC) or Perimeter Learning Communities (PLC) in all capacities including developing FLC and PLC models reserving courses and building schedules.
  • Provides supervision and direction duties such as hiring training and evaluating professional graduate and undergraduate staff. Advise and lead staff regarding university policies and procedures and technical systems such as but not limited to EAB Navigate and Banner.
  • Evaluates and maintains student records for special populations within the department monitors student registration activities academic performance/progress coordinates communications to students regarding registration programming academic resources monitors and tracks retention progression and graduation for all students within assigned populations.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the student success including collection of data; maintaining documentation files; writing and formatting a variety of correspondence reports procedures and presentations related to First-Year & Transition Programs; and developing outreach materials including newsletters and social media sites.
  • Serves as a liaison to other campus departments and student success units to effectively implement programmatic plans and to coordinate student success initiatives. Work with these units and other campus wide committees to develop and track metrics regarding student success outcomes. Coordinates communication with campus partners and faculty on academic program changes or updates.
  • Teach GSU 1010

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and three years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of training and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Preference may be given to those who possess a Masters degree and have experience in creating and implementing programs for retention & progression to graduation and success for all students. Experience presenting to small and large groups; effective verbal and written communication.
