Job Summary

South Harrison Co. R-II School District is accepting applications for Middle School Principal for the 2026-2027 School year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters Degree in Educational Administration
  2. Principal Certification
  3. Such additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

RESPONSIBLE TO: Superintendent

SUPERVISES: Certified and non-certified staff

JOB GOAL:

The principal shall serve as the administrative head of the individual school. He/She shall be directly responsible to the Superintendent of schools for the administration and supervision of the respective school for the policies rules or regulations of the Board of Education and the assignments the Superintendent shall prescribe. He/She shall have the responsibility of maintaining proper staff relations with the supervisors special teachers and other administrative personnel so that all efforts shall be directed in a constructive manner toward the coordination and administration of all phases of the educational program taking place within the school.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Middle School Principal shall plan direct and supervise the total middle school program and perform related duties as required. His/Her duties include but are not limited to the following.

  1. Interpret enforce and develop regulations that are in agreement with Board policies the school handbook and state and federal law.
  2. Provide leadership in the recruitment of staff and execute a system of personnel selection and assignment.
  3. Provide leadership for and share responsibility for the development and implementation of staff in-service programs.
  4. Promote staff professional growth cooperation and self-service programs.
  5. Supervise and evaluate staff
  6. Administer the master agreements in his/her assigned building.
  1. Provide leadership for the planning development and implementation of the middle schools internship and student teaching programs.
  2. Keep abreast of developments in middle school curriculum and instruction and provide leadership in determining the appropriateness of incorporating recent developments/trends into the schools educational program.
  3. Provide leadership for the planning development and implementation of the middle schools budget.
  4. Supervise all ticket sales and fund-raising events at the middle school and assume responsibility for the proper handling of funds.
  5. Utilize and maintain an efficient and effective operation of facilities and make provision for the appropriate environmental health and safety standards.
  6. Provide for adequate inventories of property and for the security and account of that property.
  7. Foster positive citizen-staff-student relations and effective communication and citizen participation in the schools by maintaining positive and/or improving human relations and rapport.
  8. Foster good school community relations by keeping the community aware and responsive to activities by administering a quality informational program.
  9. Plan organize and supervise recognition programs for school activities.
  10. Develop long and short-range plans goals and objectives through a systematic process.
  11. Provide educational and administrative leadership in making and carrying out decisions for the building.
  12. Anticipate problems and initiate solutions to to problems.
  13. Be cognizant of students and staff members rights.
  14. Coordinate student personnel services including the maintenance of discipline the monitoring of attendance the preparation of handbooks the supervision of student scheduling providing assistance in guidance and counseling activities and collaborating with others in the modification of student behavior.
  15. Provide leadership in student management including in the areas of student attendance discipline and lunchroom supervision.
  16. Inform and consult with the Superintendent regularly on the overall operation of the middle school.
  17. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary benefits and work year to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on the evaluation of professional staff.
