Position Summary
The purpose of an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher is to instruct non-English speaking individuals on the fundamentals of the English language so that they can communicate with others. This includes organizing courses for non-native speakers with diverse activities and methods that cover all aspects of the English language (speaking writing and comprehending). As a teacher in our school youll create individualized educational plans based on each students needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Meet teacher certification requirements andEnglish as a K-12 Second Language (ESL)of the Department of Education State of Iowa
- Successful experience in teaching secondary students learning English as a second language
- Previous experience in collaborating with department/grade level teams to support English Learners
- Such alternatives to the above qualificationsas the Board may find appropriate andacceptable
Essential Functions
- Provides consultative/coaching support to classroom teachers on EL strategies and meeting the needs of ELs in the general education setting.
- Demonstrates ability to enhance academic performance.
- Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the teaching position.
- Demonstrates competence in planning and preparing for instruction.
- Uses strategies to deliver instruction that meets the multiple learning needs of students.
- Uses a variety of methods to monitor student learning.
- Demonstrates competence in classroom management.
- Engages in professional growth.
- Fulfills professional responsibilities established by the school district
- Performs other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent orPrincipal.
Other Functions
- Participate in staff development training programs faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Provide excellent customer service and assistance to all employees fostering a welcoming and approachable atmosphere.
- Work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all interactions with colleagues students and families.
- Use positive and professional communication in all interactions.
- Adhere to safety protocols and policies established by the Ankeny Community School District to ensure the safety of oneself and others.
- Support District goals and objectives while adhering to all District policies contributing to the overall success of the school community.
- Demonstrate regular and dependable attendance to ensure smooth District operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
