NAMI Greater San Antonio is a non-profit affiliate of NAMI the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI is dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life for people of all ages who are affected by mental illnesses. NAMI Greater San Antonio is dedicated to advocacy for and education of persons with mental illnesses/brain disorders and their families and to the eradication of stigma.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for leading and managing operations of NAMI Greater San Antonio. The ED reports to and works in partnership with the Board of Directors to ensure that programs and activities support the goals and objectives of the organization. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors staff volunteers and community partners to enhance the organizations impact and sustainability.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree and 5 years of relevant leadership experience and organizational
• Demonstrated success in organizational leadership including strategic planning program oversight and board engagement.
• Demonstrated servant leadership and fostering a positive organizational
• Proven track record in financial management including budgeting fiscal oversight and
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse
• Proven track record in fundraising and resource development including cultivating donor relationships and securing grants/contracts.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in advocacy community engagement or public policy related to mental health healthcare or social services preferred.
• Personal/lived experience with the impact and effects experienced by families and friends of someone who has a mental health diagnosis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

• Provide a clear vision for the future of the organization in collaboration with the Board of
• Manage daily operations ensuring effective and efficient program
• Supervise mentor and support staff promoting professional development and
• Maintain relationships and open communication with members the Board of Directors funders and other external stakeholders.

Strategic Planning

• Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set and execute long-term strategy to advance the organizational mission.
• Develop and implement annual and strategic plans covering such areas as financial marketing public education media communications membership government relations and other areas as needed.

Human Resources Management (Staff and Volunteer)

• Hire supervise develop and evaluate all paid staff as well as external consultants in compliance with current federal state and local laws regulating these activities.
• Maintain an appropriate organizational structure for the affiliate including related staffing
• Recruit and retain a highly qualified staff and administer an effective personnel program that includes position descriptions performance standards performance appraisals and compensation

Fundraising and Financial Management

• Oversee and actively participate in fund development and identification of resource requirements for financial sustainability and growth.
• Develop and manage the annual budget aligned with strategic objectives ensuring financial stability and sustainability.
• Secure diverse funding through grants donor relations corporate partnerships and strategic fundraising activities including the annual NAMI Greater San Antonio Walks.
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors to examine and implement potential fee for service models for revenue generation.
• Prepare regular financial reports for the Board of Directors and
• Collaborate with the Board Treasurer and the affiliates outside accountants and bookkeepers to maintain the financial records.

Representation and Advocacy

• Oversee the organizations participation in state and local advocacy programs including participation in coalitions advisory committee meetings educations meetings legislative workgroups and task forces.
• Make visits to local officials state and federal legislators promote bills and provide testimony to committee hearings and briefings as requested.
• Act as an effective spokesperson for NAMI Greater San Antonio representing the organization in its relationship with government officials business and community leaders and the media.
• Collaborate with the NAMI Texas public policy consultant on the development of policy positions regarding legislation and regulation and other public policy activities that affect people with a mental illness.
• Coordinate collaboration with NAMI National on policy and organizational issues and with other state mental health organizations on mental health policy.

Board Relations

• Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set organizational priorities and
• Support operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members and interfacing between Board and staff.
• Provide timely and accurate information to the Board to support decision-
• Support board recruitment in collaboration with the Nominating Committee and Nominating Committee and the Board President to identify board needs and candidates for Board
• Support development of new board members by working with volunteers and community
• Provide education to Board members on governance issues mental illness and
• Inform and advise the Board regarding current trends problems and opportunities that are important to the future of the organization and its mission.

Program Development and Oversight

• Oversee the development of new program plans and
• Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in mental health and
• Oversee the design marketing delivery and quality of
• Oversee implementation of organizational events including educational programs conferences fundraising events and the Annual Meeting.

Membership Development

• Maintain effective member service and program activities including conducting training programs providing technical assistance engaging in consulting activities and otherwise assisting members of NAMI Greater San Antonio.
• Development and implement membership recruitment and retention programs evaluates results and recommends policies procedures and action to achieve membership goals.
• Implement annual and strategic plans for membership developed with the Board of Directors.

NAMI Affiliation

• Assure that accurate and timely communications occur with NAMI Texas and NAMI National including such areas as State and Federal legislative activity membership NAMI Walks and the NAMI Leadership development program and other important information to achieve the mission.
• Ensure that NAMI Greater San Antonio meets the NAMI Standards of Excellence as required by NAMI National.

Office Management

• Engage in and/or perform as appropriate day to day operations including information received and disseminated maintenance of appropriate legal financial personnel and other records important to operations acquisition and maintenance of other office equipment and workspace.
• Ensure the legal integrity of the association monitoring compliance of NAMI Greater San Antonio with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Maintains the necessary financial human resources and other management and administrative policies and procedures for NAMI Greater San Antonio.

Marketing/Communication

• Oversee the organizations programs for marketing outreach and communications including the development of a differentiating social media strategy. These include marketing the educational programs/classes monthly membership meetings fundraising activities (e.g. NAMI Walk) and general community A goal would be for NAMI Greater San Antonio to be seen as the go to organization for information and referral for mental health capabilities in the greater San Antonio area.
• Helps to ensure the community is aware of NAMI Greater San Antonios help lines and advocacy support for those in crisis.

Knowledge

• Knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental health trends policies and
• Knowledge and understanding of Organization Development the process through which an organization develops the internal capacity to most efficiently and effectively provide its mission work and to sustain itself over the long term.
• Knowledge of leadership planning processes change management strategies and methods to strengthen organizational culture and capacity.
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning resource allocation human resources modeling leadership techniques and coordination of people and
• Knowledge of nonprofit management and governance including an understanding of nonprofit operations board relations and financial management.
• Knowledge of best practices in hiring leading performance management and employment law compliance.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting for extended periods (2-6 hours daily)
• Standing for 1-4 hours daily
• Occasional bending stooping twisting reaching and squatting
• Occasional lifting of objects from floor to overhead or floor to waist level
• Fine motor skills and manual dexterity for writing and computer operation
• Ability to read documents and screens for up to 75% of the workday
• Vision requirements: Normal or corrected vision (near far and color discrimination)
• Hearing requirements: Normal or corrected hearing to communicate effectively

Work Environment:

This position operates primarily in a professional office setting with controlled climate conditions and minimal noise levels. Limited exposure to outdoor elements or environmental hazards.
