Part-Time TEMPORARY HEAP Specialist

(Home Energy Assistance Program)

To help Mainers stay safe and warm the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides a monetary benefit to help eligible homeowners and renters in Cumberland County pay for a portion of their annual heating position will conduct application intake and certify applications.

The Opportunity Alliance is hiring a Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Specialist whichis a client services position for the energy programs administered by Housing and Energy position contributes to The Opportunity Alliances mission through the provision of direct service to Housing and Energy Services and our clientele. HEAP staff provides intake and eligibility assistance to residents of Cumberland County seeking to enroll in home heating and energy programs.

Schedule: Part-time 20 hour/week hourly position. M-F regular business hours.

** This is a temporary position that will work for a 9 month period between October - June.

Location: Portland ME. This position will be fully onsite.

Qualifications:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent and/or 5 years demonstrated experience in a clerical or administrative position. Post-secondary education preferred.
  • Similar prior experience preferred.
  • Strong oral written and organizational skills and ability to comprehend and incorporate program manuals regulations rules and guidelines.
  • Ability to respond within fast paced environment and to fulfill multiple and concurrent administrative functions.
  • Ability to deal with confidential matters and maintain confidential files to interact appropriately and with discretion.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook Word and Excel. Ability to operate photocopier facsimile and multi-line telephone.
  • Contracts that have Rider D: Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background child protective service check & sex offender check.
  • Must not be on the state or federal suspension and disbarment list.
  • Must be able to exert moderate physical effort with occasional standing walking reaching stooping bending kneeling crouching typing and lifting and carrying material weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Driving may be necessary to attend meetings and trainings and for the occasional need to meet with clients offsite and within the program service area. This may include transportation of clientsordriving to agency location to complete work.A good driving record is required.
