About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Perioperative Area is responsible for providing high-quality evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing surgery. The RN works within the surgical team and in accordance with hospital policies professional standards and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board Registration Standards. The RNs primary duties involve patient care before during and after surgery including assessment preparation and recovery as well as supporting the surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment and efficient workflow.

Requirements of the Role

Essential

  • At least 12 months of perioperative experience as per perioperative standards.
  • Tertiary qualification in nursing and current registration as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated experience in perioperative nursing (scrub/scout roles).
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control practices.
  • Ability to assess plan implement and evaluate nursing care in a perioperative setting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure in a fast-paced surgical environment.

You will be required to have or able to obtain:

  • Tertiary qualification in nursing and current registration as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • Verification of eligibility to work in Australia.
  • Identification check validation.
  • Police check clearance.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining clinical competencies.
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic by consistently displaying punctuality integrity respect for others and a dedication to professional standards.
  • Proficient in:

Problem solving and analytical abilities.

Organisational skills.

Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Recognises that additional duties and responsibilities may be required occasionally beyond those outlined in this document.

You will be required to have or be willing to obtain:

  • Verification of eligibility to work in Australia.
  • Identification check validation.
  • Police check clearance.
  • Working with Children (WWC) check.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in perioperative nursing or surgical services.
  • Recent experience in the perioperative or operating theatre environment.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and best practices regarding patient safety and surgical protocols.
  • Advanced life support (ALS) certification or equivalent.
