As a Water Quality Operator with the City of Coppell your day starts in the field- collecting bacteriological samples running NAP tests and checking SCADA readings to make quick informed decisions. Schedule Commitment
Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. The Water Quality Operator typically works Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flexibility for additional hours as needed. This role includes participation in a rotating on-call schedule which requires availability for after-hours and weekend emergency response including SCADA alarms severe weather events and other urgent operational needs. Operators also work one scheduled weekend per month to perform daily rounds and may be assigned overtime to support critical operations.

Pay Plan

This opportunity is non-exempt and on Pay Grade #10.The full Pay Grade Range is shown for growth and development opportunities within the grade.Salary determination is supported by budget availability and qualifications of the candidate to maintain internal equity.

Hiring Range:$24.44-$29.24
  • Min$24.44 ($50842)

  • Mid$29.24 ($62275)

  • Max$35.44 ($73708)

  • October 3-19:Accepting Applications
  • October 20-24:Application Material Review and Technical Phone Screenings
  • October 27-31:Selected candidates will be invited to participate in a DISC Assessment and Panel Interview
  • November 3-7:Interview Experience

Eligibility

Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Two Years Experience in a related field is preferred
  • A Valid Texas Class C Drivers License with a good driving record
    1. A Class A Commercial Drivers License is preferred
  • A Valid Class C Water License from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
  • A Class I Wastewater Collection License from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) will be required within six months post-hire for continued employment

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge

  • General technical and working knowledge of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations for the public drinking water monitoring program.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems pumping stations and chemical injection systems.
  • Working knowledge of water/wastewater and pump station SCADA systems.
  • General knowledge of computers iPads and software used for work orders along with Microsoft Office products.

Skills

  • Skilled in electrical troubleshooting valve and pump maintenance and interpreting technical data.
  • Skilled use of hand tools.

Abilities

  • Ability to read interpret and act on trends levels and gauges in pumping stations.
  • Ability to engage in regulatory program support such as cross-connection/backflow prevention and water quality sampling.
  • Ability to work closely with others as part of a team take direction and contribute to maintaining city water infrastructure.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with coworkers and the public in English daily.
  • Commitment to learning department procedures adhering to safety practices and obtaining required licensing.
  • Demonstrated ability interest and engaged learning in all aspects of water quality operations.
