Who We Are

The Toast Frontend Platform Team (PLEX) plays a key role in enabling product teams to build and ship high-quality web experiences at scale. We own the component library tooling build systems frontend CLI and guide the microfrontend architecture that supports hundreds of SPAs across the company.
This team is deeply technical and platform-oriented. While we own some product surfaces (such as navigation and the homepage) our primary mission is to elevate the frontend development process at Toast.
What Were Looking For
Were looking for a Senior/ Staff Frontend Engineer with a passion for UI craft scalable systems and design systems. This role will guide the technical direction of Buffet Toasts cross-platform component library a foundation for Toasts user experience across products. Youll be central to how we build accessible performant international-ready interfaces at scale and help define how component libraries evolve in a world of AI-assisted development.
This is a high-impact cross-functional role for an individual who excels at the intersection of design engineering and product development. Youll work closely with design system leaders product engineers and platform teams to build systems that unlock frontend velocity and consistency.
About this roll*
In this role youll:
- Lead technical strategy and architecture for Buffet Toasts design component library and underlying systems
- Champion best-in-class accessibility performance and internationalisation across frontend surfaces
- Evolve Buffet to meet the needs of AI-assisted development enabling safe and scalable component generation and usage
- Partner closely with Design Product and across Engineering to align system capabilities with team needs and product strategy
- Build and document scalable patterns tooling and abstractions to support experimentation and high-quality delivery
- Influence cross-team efforts around theming responsive design content surfaces and shared UI frameworks
- Be a mentor multiplier and technical sounding board across the frontend community at Toast
Do you have the right ingredients*
- 6 years of experience building and scaling web applications with deep expertise in modern frontend technologies (React TypeScript CSS-in-JS etc.)
- Demonstrated leadership in building or maintaining component libraries or design systems
- Passion for frontend development accessibility animation responsive design and cross-browser behaviour
- Strong systems thinking able to anticipate scaling challenges encourage reusability and design for change.
- Enthusiasm for the future of development curiosity about AI-assisted coding tooling and emerging patterns
- Familiarity with analytics tooling (Amplitude GA etc.) and A/B testing platforms
- Experience influencing product and design decisions through code and conversation
- A bias for collaboration learning and raising the bar for frontend craft
