Job Description

Position Title:

Assistant Professor Food Marketing

Time Type:

Full time

Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Assistant Professor of Food Marketing will teach classes create and participate in a variety of learning activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve learning objectives. The incumbent will develop and execute a scholarly agenda as evidenced by published contributions to the scholarship of the field. They will work collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department college and university. The Assistant Professor will support and seek always to fulfill the guiding principles and mission of Saint Josephs University.

This is a full-time 9-month tenure-track position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan develop and teach well-organized classes and present other learning opportunities for students in accordance with departmental goals and objectives.
Prepare curriculum materials including course outlines syllabi and other instructional materials in keeping with departmental and college principles. Contribute as appropriate to program improvement and curricular development.
Assume academic advising responsibilities. Participate in department processes designed to recruit advise and retain students. Provide out-of-class communication opportunities with students.
Maintain competency and academic currency in the subject matter of the faculty members discipline and in teaching skills through ongoing research and scholarly activity.
Be actively involved in the intellectual and scholarly development of his/her field as demonstrated by membership in and scholarly refereed presentations at professional associations refereed or editorially reviewed published contributions to the scholarship of the field.
Uphold and comply with faculty responsibilities as described in the Faculty Responsibilities section of the Faculty Handbook.
Take part in program and department planning and in the establishment of department goals and objectives.
Participate in department college and university meetings as appropriate. Provide meaningful service at department college and university levels as appropriate.
Seek always to promote a spirit of collegiality in dealings with college staff. Assure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
Be familiar with college assessment and placement procedures and effectively utilize campus resources.


Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Recommend expenditures as appropriate to department chair.
Represent the university to external constituencies as appropriate.
Participate in the selection and evaluation of adjunct faculty and staff as appropriate.
May be assigned supervisory responsibility for student employees.


Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a doctorate in the individuals area of expertise at an accredited institution or ABD with clear evidence of progress. Relevant degrees include but are not limited to marketing.

Demonstrated potential as an effective teacher and productive scholar at the college or university level

Candidates must have a research program in some aspect of the food industry industry broadly defined. This can include anything from retailing cpg food and beverage manufacturing supply chain nutrition judgment and decision making etc. The department is open to any methodological expertise for this position.

Candidates must be willing and able to teach a number of the courses in our program which can be found here: Qualifications:

Prior academic (teaching and research) experience

Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant food and cpg industry experience to complement their academic achievements; teaching and research in the candidates areas of expertise are preferred.


Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

Some lifting is required such as text books course work and/or lab equipment;

Weekend or evening hours on occasion in order to support departmental open houses other admissions-related activities etc.

Position entails a 3-3 course load and may include evening online or weekend classes as assigned
