The Opportunity:

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced mission-driven leader to take the next big step in their career and serve as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a truly community-centered YMCA. The new CEO will build upon an established membership base long-term growth strategy and a strong passionate staff who are deeply committed to strengthening lives and enriching the community they love.

The Board is seeking an innovative strategic and community-minded executive who can expand the Ys impact continue to build trust and deepen relationships across our service area. The CEO will be a visible and engaged leader cultivating partnerships that enhance our reputation and advance our mission. At the heart of this role is a steadfast commitment to youth development and safety. The CEO ensures a culture where the well-being of all people is never compromisedsetting the standard for excellence exceeding compliance and embedding safety into every aspect of our YMCA.

Key Skills and Abilities of Our Next CEO:

The Board expects its new CEO to lead within the framework of a strong measurable operational plan; a living roadmap that the CEO will own drive and be held accountable to. This plan will translate the Ys vision and strategic priorities into concrete actions ensuring that day-to-day operations are aligned with long-term goals. The CEO working closely with staff will guide organizational priorities allocate resources effectively and respond to the evolving needs of the community.

The operational plan will also serve as the basis for evaluating progress through defined strategies deliverables and measurable outcomes. By establishing clear benchmarks and accountability measures the plan ensures that success is not only envisioned but also consistently achieved and sustained.

The Board believes its new CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities to achieve excellence in the following areas:

  • Position the Y as a Vital Community Partner: Serve as a visible ambassador for the YMCAs mission vision and values. Build and sustain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders ensuring the Y is recognized as a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community by connecting people to purpose and potential.   • Steward Fundraising Efforts: Develop and carry out a comprehensive fundraising plan that elevates the YMCAs standing in the community. Engage members volunteers staff and donors to grow annual giving endowment and capital fundraising efforts for lasting impact.   • Fiscal Management: Apply high-level financial analysis to forecast trends drive growth and ensure long-term stability. Lead the Y to balance or surplus operations by expanding revenue and contributions while managing costs. Guide staff leaders in achieving financial success within their departments and implement strong stewardship strategies.   • Build and Lead Staff: Implement an effective talent development system grounded in cultural competence.   • Maintenance and Development of Facilities (Capital Development): Lead capital development efforts from initial planning and feasibility through design construction and operational start-up of new renovated or expanded facilities. Maintain and update existing facilities to ensure they remain safe well-functioning and welcoming for members and program participants. Ensure all projects and ongoing improvements meet community needs and position the Y for long-term success.   • Develop an Effective and Diverse Volunteer Board: Partner with the board and governance committee to strengthen board capacity and diversity. About the YMCA:

The West Morris Area YMCA operates a full-facility including a fitness center multi-purpose rooms gymnasium outdoor field aquatic center early childhood center and teen center. The Y delivers diverse programming across aquatics youth development early learning before and after school care community development and health and wellness initiatives. The Y demonstrates commitment to innovation and specialized community needs through programs including partnerships with the Parkinsons Foundation SMARTfit technology integration HIIT classes pickleball skills development and senior programming. Salary Range: $150000 to $180000 annually

Benefits:

  • YMCA Retirement: 12% contribution paid by Y once eligibility is met
  • YMCA 403B savings account
  • Health plan: 85% paid by Y 15% paid by employee
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation Sick Floating Holidays
  • Other benefits per personnel policy such as discounted program fees free summer camp for dependent children education reimbursement.

Residency Expectation: The new CEO is required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the YMCA and the communities it serves. The CEO is expected to work in the YMCA on a day-to-day basis with remote work only on an occasional or as needed basis. The CEO will be an actively engaged leader in the YMCA and the local community.

Criteria for candidates:

  1. Accredited 4-year college degree and or equivalent work experience.
  1. Fiscally sound business management approach with a proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management more than $3M or more annually.
  1. Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and -profit experience a plus.

Search Process Target Dates:

  • New CEO on board (anticipated): January 1 2026 or earlier
